JimZ and stims
On 11/1/2005 Andrew wrote in from Sweden  (217.211.nnn.nnn)

Hi!

I just have a question..
Do any of you guys running JimZ hangers and baseplates run green or blue tracker stims instead of JimZ own stims?
Advantage?

Thanks,
Andrew

The hex version pictured is a big nut that re-cuts the threads. There are also versions that use handles.

munchh decks

P.S. sorry if the gallery is slow, the site is a bit querky!
I've been longboarding a few years, but though i'd have a go at the slalom thing, so i'm just learning the movement at the minute through the white lines on the road outside my house (no cones to jam under a wheel or move when cars come)

slalom trucks

this is a link to my board gallery, i called it the pocket pounder, but since this pick its been changed about alot, (its a good deck to test stuff on) same trucks and ive moved the holes inward some, its Birch 12mm 9ply stained light oak, like most of the ones ive made, but at only 7.5" wide it was quite flexy with the trucks right on the ends.
will send upto date pics to e-mail if you like, just made a 24" 70's racer, with 130's and retro bertz, just wish it would stop raining????

Munchhs bunch..
On 10/29/2005 Michael wrote in from United Kingdom  (80.229.nnn.nnn)

yep, change those trucks to Tracker...either the narrower ones 110mm or the 129s..(my preference is the 110)...

Dont worry about wheelbase. You might want to drill some more holes to allow more options, but wheelbase is really what works for YOU on different courses. I like longer wheelbases than most. I like to have my board set up so I have to 'force' the board through any course, but others like them to be easier handling. Drilling extra holes should be fine, many decks come like that out of the box.

With flashbacks just make sure you have enough riser to allow or wheel rub, either add a little flat riser front and back or add wheel wells, or use Khiro or Bones Insert bushings (the insert creates a slight bump stop if adjusted right) ...or a combo of all three....

Tell us more about your deck, and the trucks you use at the mo. Its always good to learn.

slalom trucks
On 10/28/2005 Munchh wrote in from United Kingdom  (86.137.nnn.nnn)

Cheers Micheal,

i'm using some old 145mm trucks with steep angle front wedge and ive de wedged the rear with one not so steep. With my abec11 flashbacks (72a)and one of my own decks (30x7.5) i'm doing ok, it pumps and carves nice, but i'm thinking the 23" wheel base is quite long compared to others i'm trying to emulate?

U think the trackers might be a bit of a shock???

Trackers for Munch
On 10/28/2005 Michael wrote in from United Kingdom  (84.93.nnn.nnn)

Standard configuration is:
Front, RTx, wedged with thin end forwards. The RTx is the 'turny' version.

Back, RTs, either flat, or 'de' wedged, ie thin edge of wedge again facing the front of the board to lessen the turny effect of the truck. The RTs is the 'stable' version.

Simple upgrades to those trucks is upgrading the bushings to Khiros, or Stimulators or Bones.

Next upgrade is getting a trick rear axle, but thats another question.

They will work with no wedging, BUT an angled riser on the front is pretty much standard.

Hi, looking at buying some Tracker RTS/RTX trucks, can anyone enlighten me?

To set them up slalom style, will they need wedging, or are they ready to go and thats the whole point????

Cheers.

Truck threads
On 10/28/2005 jaybyrd wrote in from Mexico  (207.17.nnn.nnn)

I,ve noticed this happens alot on boards of kid who try alot of freestyle tricks. You can probably pick up a cheap die (looks like a large nut) at a pawn shop if you don't have acess to one. Also you could add another nut on the end to protect the extra threads.

Axle threads
On 10/28/2005 Geezer-X wrote in from United States  (63.138.nnn.nnn)

First, are you sure it's the axle threads and not the nuts? try a fresh 5/16-24 nylock nut and see if it threads on cleanly. If not, get a 5/16-24 die, or find someone who does, anyone with a metal shop should have it, and use it to chase (clean up and debur) the axle threads.

It only takes a minute, so do all 4, add fresh axle nuts and you're done.

narrower carver CX

hey hc - carver just makes one width for now on the CX. i've been wanting the same, and thinking to have one customized in a shop, just like the 'chindys' or cut-down randals...

stripped trucks
On 10/27/2005 haggy wrote in from Australia  (203.45.nnn.nnn)

What can i do to fix a truck that is stripped so bad the nut won't screw on properly to keep my wheel in place? I don't have access to a metal workshop.

Any tips for the home approach, using simple everyday tools?

i see 6.5" listed on solidskate.

pretty easy to tell who's selling boards because they love to skate and who's selling boards to make money...

It's even better with the disclaimer at the bottom of the ad...

"For product improvements and quality control we may make small changes."

Gee....ya think?

4 da kids
On 10/27/2005 G7enn wrote in from United Kingdom  (80.229.nnn.nnn)

If you want to make a board easier to ride for a small kid, get some softer wheels unless he's planning to only skate in skateparks. Also find some soft but newschool shaped wheels, my kids used old Powell Dragon Ovals until they were 8 or so. Ricta also make 78a 56mm wheels.

Even more vital, GET SOME SOFT BUSHINGS, bones blues are fantastic for small kids. Soft wheels and trucks that steer are the best way to get small kids into skating, a little encouragment from us old guys to roll down hills, learn to kickturn and pump rather than stand on the spot learning to ollie also helps.

My eldest is now 11, riding rock hard Rictas these days but still on the bones blues.
