Sunny and stoked. Even after the sleigh broke down, Santa was able to deliver his package and see the stoke on ALL the kids (young and old). Santa was also stoked on the way his riders performed. As always, can't say enough GOOD stuff about the CSA. Your OSG event always gets me excited for the rest of the year. Slalom at its roots- accepting everyone. Pat, if you need to know how to improve your event, the only way is to do it 4 years in a row. All who attend always leave satisfied. Hats off- The NCSC crew

Ditto what Cat said. It was truly a fun weekend. Thank you Pat, Judy and Gareth for putting on a great race as always. Mark, Brad, John Ravitch, Norski, Eric, Lance, Jamie, David, Pete, Claude, so many names thank you for all of the tips, support and fun racing.
Cat thank you for pushing me. You are the one that's kept me racing this long. As you know when we met I told you I was done and you said please don't I want to race you. It's great to have you to train and race with, your stoke and passion kept me going another year. Good luck at Nationals. You did great last weekend.
Abby, Joe and Dillon along with all the Tactis Team riders you are the future of the slalom sport! Much respect for Dan and his wife. Janet Ramirez for presenting the Peter Ramirez award certificates which was emotional and a good reminder how life is short, enjoy and live everyday as if it were your last.
Thank you to Gary Holl and Richy for the phone and email coaching. Lynn Kramer who always treats me with respect you go girl!
See you at Worlds.

Thanks to all involved in making this contest a success! The weather was beautiful, the people were wonderful, the pavement was FAST! Slalom Cross should be a part of EVERY event.... in my opinion, that was the funnest part of the weekend. I am predicting banked turns & jumps at future OSG's.... hopefully!??
The juniors were out in force & it was really nice to see everyone having such a good time. Big Daddy Henderson & Mamma Henderson do so much for those kids & bring nothing but stoke to every event they attend.
Janet Ramirez, Peter's mother, held it together pretty well all weekend. One of the high-lites happened right before the slalom cross.... Peter took the first run & after 30 seconds the timer was stopped. There wasn't a dry eye in the house & the pure love everyone was feeling at that moment was overwhelming. Peter was definitely there in spirit, you could just feel his presence. Janet gave out the certificates to the winners. It was wonderful to watch. I have nothing but respect for her. She is quite a woman.
Special thanks to Judy Harris..... we could not have done it without you! Your dedication is tireless & we all appreciate you. Thank you Mark Harris for words of encouragement all weekend. A few words go a long way.
Everyone signed the beautiful memorial board that Lance made & Janet loved it so much it was only fitting that she be the one to take it home.
Shout out to all my NorCal buds.... Jamie & Joe Hart, Judi Oyama, Norski, John Ravitch, Eric Tokle, Lance & Dillon Folley, the entire Team Tactis & little Abby Benvenuti.... her 1st slalom race & hopefully not her last!
Finally, thank you to Donald, Pavel, Frank Beste & GOG. Without them I would have not been able to go as far as I have. Sorry for sounding like a cheesy acceptance speech, but it was truly a special weekend all around.... so many different emotions all weekend. It was bittersweet.
Oregon State Games ROCK!

More words of thx for a great OSG weekend. Salem is becoming the west coast version of the Farm, full of good vibes and great racing. Big thx to the incredible duo of Judy and Pat (with big help from Polliwog) who always put on a great event - fun, well organized, great prizes, no downtime - their events run like clockwork. Any race these people are involved in I will always attend. Norcal/Sacto had a huge representation, including all the gang from TeamTactis. Dan has taken on the roll of training and coaching a dozen or so talented young riders which takes me back to the old days of local shops who used to sponsor young groms like myself in 1974, carting us around from race to race. Great to see Claude – that guy represents the core of the sport – dedicated, full of excellent advice and superfast. See you all in Hood.

Dont forget Jack, there was a race in Grenoble too, the Désaxé World Cup. A high quality field of top racers there.
Hard to keep tabs on racing tabs on races these days...that has to be a good thing, right? Our race times were determined by track availability so the Brits didnt go to Grenoble, preferring to sow the seeds for a bigger event at the perfect venue next year. But two great races in Europe and many attendees at both is a good sign for the future.

This last weekend's race was the BEST! As much as I'm sick of "racing", the Oregon State Games is the Bestest of the Best! I actually got excited to "race".
It was great seeing old and new faces, great seeing so many people riding so much faster, cleaner, more solid.
Hopefully Mr Nathan Roe is doing well in his splint at the present- Wrist guards man, wrist guards. Hope all is going well with the wrist.
Judy Harris was a HUGE contribution at the timer table to speak nothing of Pat Chewning making it happen and doing all the "legwork". Again, I am proud to be the appointed course-setter for this year again, that was fun.
It was GREAT to see downhill legend Jamie Hart show up and race really well, it was fun hanging out Me, Claude, Jamie and Cat watching Jamie's dinky DVD player of old race footage, that was the bomb-as the kids say.
Thanks to everyone who showed up from near and far away and especially Claude from far, far away making it also an international event.
OK, so time to get back to being Negative Nancy Fancy Pants again, so I'll think of something to complain about and get back and post here, really, you will all be the first to know.

Yes, for those of you "outsiders" grumbling about my silly posting, who didn't "get it"(like mbl???), that whole silly post was for all my friends in the Northwest and elsewhere who know my sense of humor, including Gareth Roe, it wasn't "at" Gareth, but "for" Gareth to brighten his day and I'm sure Gareth "got it" if he had a chance to see it, which he probably didn't because his plate is way too full. I left that huge clue of my identity for everyone with the BBQ vs. Racing comment.
The rest of the post was to get people who haven't paid their entry to get a fire under their butts and write their checks and pay so Hood will happen. Why? Because I'll be there helping it out making it happen.
Right now I can't think of any other specific parades to rain on but when I do, I'll post here, first thing. Really, I will. It can be counted on.

A few tumbles. Fine racing. Did they sign up, nah, did they have to pay, nah, did they get lots of runs, yup!

Good post below Judy. I didn't realize that the Gorge Games problems were that extensive. It is REALLY too bad. Last year I spoke with several enthusiastic spectators that were really grateful to have the Gorge Games return to the area.
Given the number of both spectators and participants there for the weekend, I'm sure it was a big deal for both local businesses and participants--Now gone forever.

Here's a shout out to all the great people who joined us for the Oregon State Games this weekend. It was wonderful. Thank you to Pat Chewning, all the sponsors, the racers, the moms, dads, spouses, girlfriends, partners, etc. who turned out to support their racers. A special thanks to Dan Henderson - you are rocking it with Team Tactis, those young folks are doing great things. Thanks for building the stoke, not just keeping it alive :)
Thanks as well to the folks of the State Games organization. I just found out yesterday that there is a State Games Nationals, so here's an idea - why don't we start lobbying those states that hold state games in the summer to add slalom racing to the agenda. Then all those slalom skaters who turn out for the various state games across our country can attend the State Games Nationals? Seems like a good idea to me, let me know what you think. Jack Smith - what do you think? This sounds like something right up your alley.
On another note, yes Gareth Roe was there and awesome as always. So were his kids. All Roe attendees took tumbles with Nathan taking the prize for severity. Sorry Amy for sending them home busted and bruised. We'll try to keep them safe at Hood River.
And finally, speaking of Hood River, I would like to take a moment and say something that I really didn't feel was my place but folks keep grumbling so here goes.
The 2008 Gorge Games was a fiasco for all involved, not just the small slalom skateboarding community. From what I heard, the organizer took all or most of the money collected and did not fulfill any of his promises to any of the sports or sponsors. He has left a trail of unhappy people behind including Gareth Roe. In fact, the entire Hood River community is smarting from the implosion of The Gorge Games. Because of the mishandling of the games last year, The Gorge Games is now gone forver. Stop and think about the impact on all of the sports involved, not just ours.
It is important for all racers who were there last year to understand that signups and registrations were handled by The Gorge Games, not Gareth Roe. All monies collected were collected by The Gorge Games, not Gareth Roe. All, if any, payouts were done by this crooked organizer and The Gorge Games, not Gareth Roe. Gareth never received any of the money and was told all the athletes who were due prize money would be paid as promised.
2008 was the only year that our slalom race was held fully in conjunction with The Gorge Games and thankfully, it's the last. If you got burned last year then you are in good company because so did a lot of people.
If you are still grumbling about this, could you please get over yourself. If you are out there spreading bad vibes and bashing Gareth, could you please get over yourself. We get that some of you feel like you got ripped off. But guess what, life goes on. Gareth did not rip you off, The Gorge Games did!
If you are discouraging people from attending Worlds because you are still bent out of shape because of last year, again, get over yourself. You are not building or maintaining the stoke, you are crushing it.
Everyone needs to understand that many of the costs associated with last year's slalom events in Hood River and the races held in Hood River in prior years were personally paid for by Gareth Roe, thousands of dollars in fact, all in order to keep bringing the slalom community an top notch event. If you are grumbling about last year's event, take a good look at yourself. When's the last time you put on an event, put your own personal bank account on the line to underwrite it, and then took a deep breath and decided to go ahead and keep doing it, just for love of the sport and the slalom community. Most of us only put our personal bank account on the line just to get ourselves to the event to compete, we don't take it to the level Gareth and a very few other organizers have done. We need to show some appreciation to all of those organizers out there who have paid your prize money out of their own pockets. Did you take a moment to think about it from that point? Again, could you just get over yourselves?
CSA, though tiny, is working hard to bring together a great event. Pat Chewning, Gareth Roe, Claude Regnier, and I had a great, productive session this weekend and are covering all the bases, including prize money. If you are working to tell people not to come because you are mad about your prize money from last year, then you are potentially hurting the entire skate community by making Worlds all about you and your ill will instead of what it should be - a coming together of the world's best racers and supporters in a gorgeous setting.
Please join us for The Seismic World Championships of Slalom Skateboarding in July. It's going to be terrific.

I haven't been to a World Champs in the US since Morro Bay in 2005 and am really looking forward to seeing so many old friends again. I've never been to beautiful Hood River and there are so many people I have met online but not in the flesh...reminds me of meeting everyone at the Cambria practice hill prior to the 2001 Worlds. Anyone remember those first heady days of the "Revival"? Hmmmm....Chicken riding an Ick (which broke), JG and Dunn on Blackbirds, Maurus from Switzerland and Gary Cross, riding Kryp C-62's!Oh, and some guy called Mollica missing the 16 cut and being very pissed off! Happy days.... See ya there, bring smiles...
