I can say from experience, that the tots are going to want exactly what everyone else has. just set him up with a small of board as possible. like team goon mini, termite, madrid mini, etc

How old are we talking? He probably should have whatever his friends have otherwise he will feel left out. , then you can get him an old school deck as an extra . Bahne are back making decks and abec 11 make a retro wheel . Have a look at the old skool team online shop ,based in sydney Josh who runs the shop will sell you the right stuff. The bahne and other retro stuff you can get online through there respective websites. I buy lots of stuff from the states without a hitch.

my nephew is about to get his first real skateboard, in my day (80,s) decks were short and thin, trucks could turn in a 4 foot radius and we had skicky wheels. where do you get this sort of stuff these days. here in australia all you can get are wide boards that don't turn. any suggestions on brands and dimmensions would by appreciated

newboarder: Deriks wrong answer

Ups,
I gues I made a mistake. The alva 38 is a oldshool deck. I don't know, if the randalls are a little to wide for that. For oldshool boards the with of the trucks with mounted wheels should match the deck's with. A good oldshool truck is a tracker 149, but You can use a randal 150 as well. I thing for an olshool deck 76 mm Kryptos are to big as well. I would select 60 mm or 65 mm No skoolz. I don't kwow a lot about oldshool boards, so I recomend You better check other guys answers.
Have a nice ride!

Hi newboarder!
... perfect! My Board (lush bahari) is 9.25 and the 180's Randals II are great, even with the sideset flashbacks. I have some 145 Trucks on another board, but I prefer the wide trucks for cruising, carving and a little speed. With 76 mm wheels, I guess You need Risers. I have 70 mm wheels and use a 5 mm Riser front and a 5° Wedge aft. With loose trucks and wheel wells it fits perfect.

hey.. just bought an alva 38 special deck and looking to use it for some cruisin.. hills and carving. the board is 38" x 9.75".. so, im new to all this, any idea if i would be ok with 180mm randal trucks on a 9.75" wide board or is that not wide enuf? i was gonna throw some 76mm classic k kryptos on there too.. would that fit?
peace. newboarder

Hey does anyone have a carver cx trucks? if so... does your cx trucks squeak? ..mine does. i thought these trucks were supposed to be "squeak-free".. but anyways .. theres nothing wrong with these trucks. i just dont really wanna hear any weird sound when riding my board. any tips on how to eliminate this instead of buying new bushings??... or if i have to buy bushings, what is the best out there for pumping/carving?

"1-turning radius: comparable to Exkate & Baku? 2-bushing action: ? 3-adjustability: ? 4-turn limiters: too limiting? not enough?"
1. Yes, about the same 2. Yes, and it's 94a 3. Yes, more than Kapu, Baku, Exkate 4. Depends on board length, but pretty good.

I checked out Maurus Strobel's ride, it was the "gas pedal" rear foot block that got my attention. The underside was sporting a highly wedged Gus front truck, W/blue G-truck rubbers. For the rear it was a lovely blue Aiflow truck w/o wedging. To make contact, he appointed 3DM Avalons to each corner. The complete package brought a sort of international "je ne sais pas" to the streets of Morro Bay. I rate the entire package, two snaps and a twirl!

Maurus Strobel is on Seismic front and Indiana slalom deck, I think. A very respectable combination that grabbed the championship last year and podiumed again this year.

CX vs. C7 -- & impressions of RTR??

jim, the c7 is a lot more loose and surfy with more complicated hardware, and the cx is tighter and has a faster top end, with a far simpler hangar+baseplate configuration. i've ridden them both quite a bit and 'reviewed' them with side-by-side pics -- also got a good number of people up here hooked on Carvers.
I'd really like to hear a review from someone on RTR trucks, I rode them briefly in Japan (Murasaki Sports) a couple years ago, they had the 3-wheeled setup and the 2-wheeled like the Tierney, but I'm mostly curious about the front carving truck that has standard 2-wheels and looks like a swivel mechanism, if this is really any improvement from a C7...
