I ride the Randal DH's 160mm. I had the yellow pivot cups in them, but Randal said was too soft, replaced with black ones, not sure of the durometer though. I have black bushings, and have the kingpin tight, and their still loose enough to turn. I'll probably replace the stock kingpin, with the grade 8''s so it will be harder to bend. I have metal cup washers though and I have seen rubber ones. Dont know the difference there. Check out Magun Dh trucks, never seen trucks that expensive!

i ride r2's for downhill and was hitting 45 easy on them stock. i put some hard bushings in and they go as fast as i want em to (i've never been above 55 though). mabe if you're riding a less stable board than me you might need to upgrade trucks, but if its a racing deck thhen you should be fine unless you're going 60+ which i know nothing about.

i was wondering if anybody could let me know what the best dowhill racing truck would be. right now i'm just using the classic RII's and they seem to have a little too much play for the high speeds/. What about the jim Z's? anybody know about thosee? as well i've heard you can flip the hangers on the RII's is this true? thanks

Seismics and Flexing/Stiff Slalom decks

Here's my 2 Cents: I have never been able to make a Seismic feel good as FRONT truck for slaloming anything, whether it's on a stiff deck or flex deck T/S or all the way up to Super G.
However, using the Seismic 30 degree baseplate as a BACK truch has worked MUCH MUCH MUCH better for me on both stiff planks and cambered flexing slalom decks, in fact the 130mm hanger that has been MMW 8mm'd is my rear truck of choice for G/S. Occasionally I have used the 45 degree baseplate with a MMW 8mm'd 100mm hanger DE-wedged in back about 5-7 degrees for STS - Super Tight slalom(cones in the 3.5 to 5.0 center to center range, if you can have a category called Super Giant, I say you can have a category called Super Tight) I also ride surf-stance, whereas parallel riders who like Seismics often like the 45 degree baseplate on the front truck. So, individual style probably has a lot do with it, I'm sure it does in my case. That is just my B-Class racing opinion so take that for whatever it is worth. -Paul

how wide is that hanger, and how wide is it in total (axle to axle) is it possible to change axles and make it even wider?
any idea of how much one truck weight?
I can´t find any specs on radikals site.

I'm not a truck genius, so forgive me if I don't know what you guys mean by the comments about the right rear wheel in the Radikal photos (all of which were taken by me, at Goad's request). Are you implying that the axle is bent or that the wheel is coned somehow from said hypothetical bending? If so, consider that what you (think you) are seeing is likely simple barrel distortion from a digital camera lens. I didn't give the trucks the full "body cavity search" treatment, but my guess is that since they were CNC machined, they're likely to be pretty damn straight. As for whether the axles are up to the task of handling big wheels, etc., well, carry on.

I've been riding trucks of my own design and construction for about 5 or 6 years now,and i've gone fairly fast with very loose trucks, some of the older trucks had cylindrical delrin pivots the new ones use micro bearings(a stack of two) i find no instability from a close bushing to pivot relationship,i generally make my trucks with the axle line through the kingpin, and between the bushings;seems like a logical good place to have the axle.

Sure the Allstar looked like it will be a nice pumper... virtually all slalom boards will be good pumpers (~30" long, 19-21" wheelbase). Insect is another good choice (as I said I have a 30" Sidewinder - which is the board I got after the vanguard to practice pumping). Just pick which one is affordable and nice looking to you.

The Allstar is a great pumper with anything! I got it with 180 Seismics and Avilas if you can believe it!!?? The shop knows nothing but it was what got me back into skating. Loved it.

I got that "big bad" bushing kit so I'll be playing with that for a bit (I have the barrels on the Vanguard) but to tell you the truth I think it has more to do with my technique. I've read back a couple of years on the Pumping thread and played with both gyrating and weighting/unweighting techniques. Just gotta do more and practice and by the time the snow gets here I'll have forgotten everything about snowboarding and have to relearn everything to carve on snow downhil with any speed at all... ;).
Back to the subject matter... I was just thinking Landy for a stiffer setup. I thought that lit'l board the Allstar might be a good candidate for a pure pumper with Seismics?

Pumping a Vanguard

Yea, I tried to improve the pumping potential of the Vanguard as well. I had blue Khiros inserts (softer than reds, but there is actually a discontinued white bushings that is even softer) at first and they are ok, but not that great for pumping in my opinion. I switched to Radikal bottoms and the ride is way better, mostly because of the thick barrel shape I think. I don't think the conical shape of the Khiro inserts gives you enough play for good pumping. I have a set of white and blue barrel Khiros that I plan on trying them once my Crails come in. You should also try Bones Hardcore soft/mediums.
As for the Seismics, I'm pretty sure I've read every single post on Seismics and Loaded and from my memory... all the people who liked them were riding them on a Pintail or a Fish, both of which are a lot stiffer compared to the Vanguard. Notice how the Vanguard has sort of an hourglass shape? That's great for foot placement, but eats a bit of the energy due to less torsional rigidity compared to the ovular Pintail and Fish. I have an Insect Sidewinder 30" that I just switched from Tracker RTX/RTX 139mm with Radikal bushings to Seismic 130 quick/stable yellows, I'm not sure I like the Seismics on them, but after about an hour of tweaking I can get a good pump going (the Trackers are great for pumping... the Seismics seem to require a higher starting/cruising speed to get going). What Landy are you looking at... I personally don't think they are very good for pumping (of course I've only tried their dropped models and the dingy). How about this... you buy me a Swoard, and I'll give you my Loaded Vanguard Insect Sidewinder complete with 4 types of trucks (Crail 180, Seismic 180, Seismic 130, Tracker RTX/RTX 139) =]

Pumping a Vanguard

I was mainly thinking of how to maximize the pumping ability of the Vanguard. Lonerider: I got that set of Khiro's and put a red (second softest) on the front and a yellow (second hardest) on the back and it did make a noticable difference in the ride. I could back off the pin and ride it softer but with more play. I was just wondering about maybe synching up the bounce of a Vanguard deck and a set of Seismics with the right springs and thought that someone else might have done some trials with a variety of springs. It seems that some folks over at SF have had some success with the combo though. I would definitely experiment if I had them lying around but this experiment would require me acquiring a set. I might just get an Insect or a Landy with some Seismics just to play but I'm planning on buying a Swoard this year and that might put a crimp on my experimentation...:-0

That's not entirely true. The Vanguard was designed with Randals in mind, but the Pintail, Fish, and Hammerhead all come with Tracker RTS trucks on the Loaded website. If you read some of the posts the Loaded team has written, you would have also found out that another reason they didn't choose Seismics because they didn't like the construction of the earlier models. The Vanguard does work really well with the Randals, but their "synergistic" marketing spiel doesn't mean you should try out other trucks if you happen to have them lying around anyways.

Loaded boards are built to be ridden exlcusively with Randals...it's the only board engineered with a particular truck in mind.
Flexible decks will not work with Seismics. whether it's a longboard or slalom board

Seismics and Loaded Vanguard

I have a Loaded Vanguard Flex 4 (38") and I switched out my R2-180s with a set of Seismic 180 (45y,30y) and I didn't really like the ride. The flexiness of the Vanguard kind of interfered with the springiness of the seismics in my opinion and you end up getting kind of a unstable "double flex/spring" system where the energy loadup and rebound is uneven (i.e. not progressive). I assume if you spent a long time switching and adjusting springs you could get it the way you like, but I sense it would be a lot of work.
The Seismics works a lot better with the stiff S9 Pintail 44" I had. I think it will work a lot better if you have a stiffer Vanguard too (my Flex 4 is almost as flexy as you can get for my 150 lbs). Overall though I'm not sure I like Seismic trucks that much aside from pumping. The return to center is such that you can't really sit in a carve and ride it through a big arc across the hill. I prefer to do cross-overs with a few cross-throughs. If you like quick cross-unders, then the Seismics will fit you style better.
