All three sets of Mr. Bennett Truks... As advertised in Feb issue Skateboard Magazine; Bennett Hijacker Truk $13 per set, Bennett Pro Truks $18 per set, Bennett Pro Ad+Trak $21 per set (6.6" Pro Ad hanger). Shipping and handling was $1.50, +Calif residents 6% tax.. Cost me about $168 per set with freight. So thats about a 700% price increase over 30 years, or about 6% per year. Not a bad return for 30 years as are still minty and could be used again!! Everything original (cept one ACS baseplate), the bushings, nuts, bolts.. Even the axle rods, those little thin spacers and the axle nuts all retain about 75% or more of original bronze application via the Mr. Bennett factory process!! Thats an anal collector eye for ya!!

I was talking to a friend of mine who I hadn't seen in years and mentioned that I got back into skateboarding a few years ago and have a small collection of vintage boards from the 70's. He mentioned that he had his old Sims board somewhere in his mother's house. on Friday I received a package in the mail with the beuatiful board below! I had to clean it up a little and replaced the original Bennett baseplates with a set of ACS plates since the Bennetts were destroyed. Otherwise, the 1977ish deck, wheels, and Bennett Pros are in GREAT shape. Check it out. Rob

So presenting my vintage age to you young-ins. I pioneered the original Solar Energy industry in 1978-83-ish... Thus one day I decided when the opportunity arose, and seems somewhat rare opportunity, to purchase 1978-ish Solar Energy Radiation skateboard wheels.... $100 bucks approx... Lots of bidders!! A gold-ish set went for similar... Little more... Bid but 2nd place :----) SO ENJOY THE PROOF OF PURCHASE and my Solar Pitch book, California License Plates on my 1972 Datson 510 :---) and one of a thousand pictures I still have of my products. That pic was on the cover of the Solar Energy Industry Magazine 1979.. Was first housing development in USA to us Solar Energy Hot Water system as standard feature.... 56 homes... No real money for me though... Industry collapsed, but like skateboarding has come back with a vengence and powerful fury.... Quote from Pulp Fiction. Enjoy the weekend.

So there in lies the problem... Eureka :----) You got several hits/replies on your RR6s and other stuff for sale. But your computer crashed per your notes on the BUY SELL TRADE page. The RR6s in the picture I attached below are almost original issue red color and hardness to 30 yrs ago. They still bounce like new!! I got them via a BUY IT NOW on ebay for $250 which also included the original factory supplied bearing used in the wheels factory making process!! Got off EBAY from an original dealer in Rhode Island 60 days ago! So depending on condition I would think the pricing/value of your wheels to be $40-$250-ish, per your used very little condition comments. NOW; Sales is sales. PIZZZAZZZZ sells. This is a sought after vintage skateboard collector item.. Clean them up! Put the wheels up on EBAY with 3-4 pictures, start at $9.99, List auction as VINTAGE SKATEBOARD ROAD RIDER WHEELS and let the bidding begin!! Or list them with a picture on BUY-SELL-TRADE page again. Just make sure the computer does not crash again!!! Sk8ter Later Troy David

Well, if you go to the Buy/sell/trade section of this website and hit "older 25" once and scroll down a bit you will see a series of pics of helmets, wheels and a couple old skates posted by me (Troy). In those pics are the RR 6's. I had not posted a price because I had no idea of the worth. Maybe not posting a price was my mistake because no one was interested enough to even make an offer. Anyway, back to my original question. I guess from the couple of responses they are worth something. The real question is what. I don't really care if I sell them or not but the fact is that I'm not a collector and having stuff sit on a shelf collecting dust really does'nt do it for me. I thought I could get something worthwhile for them to go toward some race travel expenses and get them off the shelf (and onto some one elses). So, $20?, $40?, $80?,$5?? Or should I put them on a beater for the kids to thrash?

absolutely no interest is unusual so unusual that perhaps they were mislisted,it's pretty easy to list something in a way that it might not show up on a search. You would think that if your baseprice was normal, let's say forty+shipping, and the pics showed a set of wheels in excellent condition ,someone like vintage man would have scooped them up in an instant.

Personally I think Mr Curious is prank emailing us!! :---) Now why would I put up $600 worth of wheels and say such a number if they had no value, or were so common, nobody was interested?? Sorry getting cranky in my "are you kidding me Mr Curious" age :---) To answer your question. I need to ask some; Were you trying to sell your wheels in China? Or a India located flea market or a garage sale outside the USA? If so you need to refine your marketing direction. Now if you tried selling these RR6s in the USA :---).... Did you over price them? Is your description "slightly used" incorrect and maybe a collector might call them thrashed? Regardless the solution is simple: Post your email address, and a picture on this site, via the Buy-Sell-Trade page. Or use Ebay as your selling source. Title your auction; Vintage Skateboard Road Rider wheels. You will sell these RR6 wheels in 7 days or less. Prank Caller Prank Caller Lance to Vicent Vega in Pulp Fiction

the 7" pros (4" hangers) were offered with an 8" axle and washer stack-up for a short time (spring/summer 78), until GW could get a real 8" (5" hanger) on the market. they're weren't super rare at the time, but I have never seen a set since. Most of them were changed back to 7" axles to preven the axles from bending. thats also what I did with mine too. I am not aware of them offering a longer axle on the original Pro-classic (6" axle).

Buddy,
I have also seen Gullwing Pro's with a narrow hanger as in Vintage Man's photo's, but with a longer axle and then wheel spacers or aluminium 'cones' added to the keep the wheels wider. I guess a bit like the Benett Ad-Trac. I guess this was what they did to quickly respond to the rapidly widening decks before they could get the Wider 7, 8 and 9" Pro's out. I only saw this is magazines, so maybe they just did it for Team riders?
Do you know any more about this? Do you have a Gullwing connection?

to clarify about the original Phoenix versus the revised Phoenix. the original design was widely available. That was the truck that was sold. However, all of the sudden they started coming with the revised hanger, after the classic came out. So it is just as common to have revised as it is original. They weren't like a proto-type.
Also, for some reason, There were crap loads of Phoenix in England. No idea why! Some distributor over there muct have bought a HUGE number of the trucks.

Awesome... thanks for posting, Peter. Have you got any Wasp trucks? I think they were a UK ripoff of the Gull Split. There used to be a set in the pro shop at Rom, but since that got remodelled (about a year ago) the Wasps have vanished... only set I ever saw IRL.
Vintage Man: The original Phoenix that Buddy mentioned had been freely available at The Skate Shop (Poole, Dorset, UK) until recently. There's a lot of those about.

Thanks for the picks of the GW proto-types. I am going to add it into my GW archives. Thats the first set I have ever seen that was actually not mounted on a board in an old (then era) photo. I never new the logo was embossed/molded/etc onto the hanger. I thought the proto-types had no markings whatsoever. The hollowed out based plate was an effort to kill some weight. It was milled out after the casting process.

I have some Prototypes, or at least very very early Gullwings here.
These are the ones seen on the very first adverts for Quicksilvers by Powell. Those ads also showed the Quicksilver equiped with the first ever Powell wheel. It is clear red, but with a huge double radius. Basically it was a Bones cubic, but in clear red urethane, and in 1977!! I have a set somewhere, I'll dig them out and photograph them.
These pics show the Proto Gullwings
Notice the engraving of HPG and IV on the flat back area of the hanger. Its hard to see in the photo. Also notice the ribbed underside of the baseplates. All other Gullwings I've seen dont have this.

Buddy, once again, thanks for the GW history lesson. I've got a pair of each Phoenix type, but always wondered why there were two different castings for the hangers. I figured it was just one of those things. In the way that various Pro models (and later Super Pros) exhibit slight tweaks here and there (a gnarlier pivot shoulder on the baseplate, raised lugs where the plate is drilled for bolts, I could go on and on and on...). No I am not completely obsessed with Gullwing hehe.

You need to try to ad some first release style Phoenix to your collection. Those Phoenix pictured are the second release that had the hanger ends like the Pro-Classic. The first release had the ends like the split axle hanger (minus the axle nut). What happened was that wheels that had slightly recessed bearing (either by design or inconsistent pour depth) rubbed on the hanger. The revision was needed to kill some oc the hanger diameter out on the ends of the hanger. The hanger widths in both designs are identical. The signature gullwing slots or fins are a tad different also.
