Street Review
Honolulu, HI
On 1/15/1998 Joint5 wrote in from ()

Pacific Heights Road is perfect for intermediate to advanced. Solid 2.5 miles of EPIC pavement. Wide street with limited traffic for Honolulu. Bottom begins at Shell station right before Pali Highway (Kailua Bound) on ramp. Get plenty pullable hairpin turns.
Sierra Drive on Maunalani Heights by Kaimuki is a nice 3 mile switchback (intermediate to advanced) with 5 hairpins and some sketchy sections. Begins at 11th and Waialae Ave.

Looking for good spots in the SoCal area. Not too gnarly - 30 mph or so. The longer the better. Any ideas? Thanks

The "Domplatte", Cologne, Germany
On 1/6/1998 Jonas wrote in from ()

The "Domplatte is the the square around the huge cathedral of Cologne (158m high), the Philharmony and the Roman-German Museum. You can't miss it sice it is right next to the main train station too. It is a very popular place for shortboarders and inline-skaters because of all the curbs stairs and all the other hardcore gangsta shortboard shit.
The suface is very good I think. it's not alsphalt is it granit ?
The "Domplatte" useually is a windy place what kicks ass when you got the wind behind you :)
You are allowed to skate there from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM ( a sign says that). The only problem is that there are always people crossing the Domplatte but I could handle that without any badf accident ;)

enter the following address into your browser to see a samall part of the "Domplatte which is called Roncalli square

http://www2.rrz.uni-koeln.de/koeln/im/roncalli.gif

mail me if you skate in or near Cologne

Jonas :)

Exit from the redwoods, arcata,ca
On 1/2/1998 sequoia wrote in from ()

Start from the top of the back parking lot in Redwood Park, It starts fast and bumby, but its nice skating through the redwoods. Once you exit the woods you are are on 14th street. Follow it to the bottom, nice for just plain bombing or practice your carving. Light traffic during non-school hours, just be carefull of the stop sign.

Niagara Parkway (in queenston from the border, Right beside the Niagara river)
On 12/22/1997 Bean & Chris wrote in from ()

This is a nice long hill, there are lots of turnoffs about halfway down, it's paved well, and is pretty fast. We think it's a great hill because you can ride here all day because there are a lot of other nice hills in queenston.

college campuses
On 12/16/1997 andy love wrote in from ()

from my experience, a college campus can be very fun at
night when there is nobody around... i have ridden the uc berkely and uc san diego campuses, but im pretty sure any campus would be similar. many of my study sessions have been interupted by late night skate missions with my roomates down at school...

does anybody know where i can get a sector 9 cloud nine in nor cal for under 140 bones???

Tick Neck Park-Pasadena,MD
On 12/14/1997 Longboard STOO wrote in from ()

One real fast hill and numerous longer, mellower runs that
can be linked together if your board is fast enough. The
"Sugar Shack Run" combines a few of these to take you from
one side of the park to the other. Usually no traffic at all
to contend with. The parks only function is for county
soccer games. I need to hook up with other Balto area
Longboarders. E-Mail Me

Killington, VT.
On 12/11/1997 Jamie wrote in from ()

for any of you who snowboard in the northeast, you're probably familiar with that long hilly windy road that leads from the highway to Killington resort. It takes about 12 minutes to go up it by car, and is ALL hill and windy, but not too sharp....there seems to be about a quartere mile of flat at the bottom to save you from bombing into the highway...I've been there once in the summertime, and the road is totally clean, smooth pavement, and there are almost no cars, since it's the offseason...this was before I had a longboard however, and each time I'm up there skiing this winter, it's either snowy or sandy, and it would be suicide with the cars, so I dream of next summer...

DELAWARE???!!!!
On 12/8/1997 Jake and Tyler and their pet Piglet wrote in from ()

It pretty much sucks in DE. We have explored every possible nick and cranny and still cant find a hill that is a little scary for a pussy. The only hill we found is on Creek Road it is a fun hill, the only rush is not knowing if a car is coming up to hit you on the narrow one lane road. You reach speeds close to 30 m.p.h. The foliage is cool in the fall and the wet leaves add a challenge. Your best bet is to stay clear from Delaware. But if you happen to come here look for us because we are the only longboarders here. We ride every Tuesday, religiously

Brigantine Skatepark
On 12/6/1997 Mike Manzi wrote in from ()

Unfortunately, must disagree with the earlier review of this park from Bananas. I showed up with a Sector 9 Cosmic Rider 2 and a Dogtown Mid Size Crisis(32") board. The bowl is way kinked and they have put a spine in the center, which precludes any rider from carving it from an approachable angle. I hit patches of sand also. I really wanted this place to be good, but you out there with longboards will never be able to ride it. No wonder so many riders turn up with the new style "flip & dip" equipment , this is like a concrete one-hit ramp, just in bowl form. The public skatepark idea is obviously a good one, but it should be researched further. In summary, there seem to be no carveable lines of any real length in this park. Sorry for the negative review, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em

Just want to say Stoke to all of you reading and writing in this. It's a sooper resource. Keep skating cause you love it. To spice up old, familar hills try riding switch stance. It turns those old boring runs into too fast, weebling thrill.

SAN FRANCISCO SUNSET
On 12/5/1997 MATT wrote in from ()

WHERE 27TH AVE MEETS TARAVEL BOMB STRAIGHT DOWN 27 TO VICENTE THEN TACK A SHARP RIGHT ONTO THE ULTRA SMOOTH PAVEMENT ON VICENTE. THIS IS AN EASY FAST CRUZ DOWN TO SUNSET. THEN ITS JUST A SHORT WALK/BUS RIDE BACK UP TARAVEL. ALSO SFSU HAS A GREAT RUN OR TEN MAPPED OUT ACROSS THE ENTIRE CAMPUS STARTING AT 19TH AND HOLLOWAY DOWN TO LAKE MERCED BLVD. MY PERSONAL FAV. SPOTS ALSO UPPER PACHECO FROM 28TH TO SUNSET IN AN INSANLY FAST RIDE, BUT LOTS OF CARS AND YOUR RUNNING AGAINST ALL THE STOP SIGNS. BE CAREFUL

Turtle Hill, inner sunset, in S.F.
On 11/24/1997 Nico wrote in from ()

Take the 6 Parnasas to the end of the line, you are now on 14th avenue. It's a nice view even on the foggiest of days. If you walk north up a slight hill and get on your board when you get to the apec you won't stop til you get to ninth and judah where you can catch teh bus back up to do it all again.
If you are familiar with the area you will realize that the roads have a lot of forks and divisions, so you kinda have to know which way your going. But the divisions only bring more diversity and fun. Its a steep hill, so you'll be flying down streets that are as smooth as butter.

Berkeley Campus
On 11/11/1997 Mike & Thomas wrote in from ()

Starting from the upper east entrance next to Pimentel Hall offers a fun and exciting ski slope-like run through the UC Berkeley campus. Go down straight make either a left or right (left for beginners toward Wheeler Hall down to between Dwinelle and the other building right to it. Pursue the same road and will end up at University Ave. If you go right after Evans Hall in the beginning (intermediate), you will be challenged with a narrow street propelling you to speed approximately 25-30 mph all the way down to University Ave. This run is ridden by all of the awesome longboarders of UC Berkeley. Watch out for dirty cops during the day and early evening. Shout out to all of the longboarders of Berkeley.
