Board Review
Mountainboard
On 1/8/1999 Zac Heise wrote in from ()

I also have two Mountainboards. I have a 132 and an 116(Orbiter) the orbiter has no cromoly frame, it is dubbed the freestyle board but its the best board for getting around town because with out the frame it is light enough to push. It is also fun for offroad because slides (coleman and power) are much easier to learn on grass and dirt. On pavement the hold an edge like no other, you can turn on a dime, they are a little sketchy if you trying to straight line a big hill, but they are really carving machines. the boards are all designed so the deck sits even with the axle so you are riding "in" the board as opposed to "on top" of the board, it really gives you a nice carving sensations, you can get the 183(6 feet long) with no bindings and ride it like a surfboard, walk the deck and all. or you can get an orbiter with bindigns and whip it around like a snowboard. I really urge you to go the the website www.mountainboard.com also check out www.hylineatb.com

Pro 36" Flexdeck
On 1/8/1999 Jeremy Ryan wrote in from ()

If there is anyone out there looking for the smoothest ride in the world. I recomend checking out the "Flexdex". From my personal experience the only way you can float better is if you had wings! And there is no question about speed. Buy,borrow, or steal one and just try it out.

Greenbrew 60" cruiser
On 1/7/1999 Chris wrote in from ()

Today I got my new board. It is a greenbrew. You may not have hurd of this company but they only make 48" and 60" boards. It came with Kriptonic route 70's and 166mm Indy's.
It is 60"s and very snappy. It has a very tight turning radius without speed wobbles at speeds up to 30 mph.I bought it from big yank @ http://www.bigyank.com
Keep it rollin' Chris-

REAL-WOOD
On 1/4/1999 Matt Highison wrote in from ()

WOOHOO!! Today I got my Real-Wood longboard. It is 48" long, about 10" wide, and really just beautiful. I mean REALLY nice looking! The underside is fiberglassed-----its glass clear, smooth, shiny, and looks great. The top has a fiberglass finish, clear, but its not smooth, it has sort of a rough texture to it. It is MUCH smoother than gripptape, (which mean it doesnt scratch you or anything else up), but it still holds you to the deck very nicely. Also, the sides of the deck have the same fiberglass finish as the bottom, which is a plus. It came with a clear rubber noseguard. I know, your probally thinking, "what a pansy...", but the truth is you dont really see it, and i would hate to f*ck up the nose of this beauty, so it give me more confidence on the nose wheelies. Speaking of nose wheelies, I dont know what it is, but of all the boards ive ridden, this board is the easiest to wheelie on. Maybe its the weight or something. It came with eXkates ( i got red bushings ) and some wheels that i cant remember their name(not a big name-brand) and abec 5 bearings. The wheels were surprisingly GREAT!! .. 70mm/78a(i am guessing on the hardness) and they roll fast and grip as good, if not BETTER than Krypto's. THe deck is pretty stiff, with only a slight bit of flex to it, it turns great with the eXkate red bushings, i bet even better with the blacks or blues, but i havent found the diff bushings to make very much of a difference in turning ability on my other boards. This is a great board for cruiseing (no pumping though), walking/nose tricks, with a some carving, and a bit of downhill mixed in. (This baby really get flying!) So if your thinking about getting a new complete...think about Real-Wood (http://www.real-wood.com) Im outta here..gotta go skate...later

Forget sector nine and all those burned out brands.
These completes are the phatest longboards. Mine is
47" and the glide is unbeliveable. My homies have
sector nines and powells and the say their boards are
shit compared to my barfoot. Kapu trucks give you a
true cruising sensation. Four hundred and twenty
thumbs up!

Complete boards
On 12/24/1998 you're siezing wrote in from ()

Hopefully manufacturers of "complete" boards have done their R&D. It is a bummer that so many companies have jumped around when it come to their truck manufacturer. This piece is the integral part of the skateboard system. The wheel base, deck width, wheel size and width, and nose and tail lengths should be designed around the truck. Selling the same board with new, different trucks proves that the decks were designed first. Playing with longboard is good, but companies are in business to do this R&D for you. Who could care about product integrity that much? Most don't.

Mountainboard/Carve USA
On 12/21/1998 Duane Gabel wrote in from ()

Tater,

I really don't know anything about Carve USA boards, but you should check out another company, Mountainboard Sports (www.mountainboard.com), that makes similar boards. They have a couple of different models; I have the 152cm, and it is incredibly fun on hills. You wouldn't think from the pictures of these boards that they carve that well, but they do, much tighter than my 41" Flexdex before the torsion truck craze. They are a lot of fun on grass hills (some ski areas are beginning to open up "all-terrain board parks"). Some folks ride them on dirt, rocks, in Moab UT, etc., but they also give you a great carving sensation on pavement. They are on the heavy side, I think, so they're not much fun to push around. But, again, get a nice hill, and they're great. You can also control your speed by how much you inflate your tires. Let me know if you have any questions.

Sean,
Work on the spelling bro, you spelled your name with 2 n's and then with only one. That's not the point though. I find it interesting you are 14 and own your own skate shop and your own skate park. Then you say it runs at 25 mph but after that you say it goes 60mph? Anybody see a trend here with Sean's story? California Classic used to make surfboards

Sector 9 or Freeride?
On 11/17/1998 Time wrote in from ()

I have been wanting to get a longboard for ages and ages and have narrowed it down to a Sector 9 original or cosmic series or a Freeride. I want a board that carves really well but can also do some manouveres on (bearing in mind I am a novice) I also reckon I am going to get eXkates for it as well...If anyone can recomend one of these boards and setups over anything else I would be really grateful for your experienced opinions!
Heres hoping to bring some longboard style to the U.K! (Well, at least when it is onshore) Thanks!

but the borad is the slickist thing equipt with trackers and 72 mm "moon rovers"
gives it the funky groovin flow that you trive.

Purple Skunk 40" double nose w/ indy 215's and spitfire 66's
On 10/11/1998 noah wrote in from ()

I got this board about 3 weeks ago from wendell at the purple skunk skate shop. Obviosly it's a deck of the own design, but it shreds at the skate park. Loosen up the trucks a bit, and you will be goin every the toothpick riders go, but faster and bigger. It's fairly light so you can float huge late grabs, or keep it stable with an early grab. Once you get this thing dialed in, you pump up a hip and it just floats up several feet. I highly recommend this board settup and skate shop. Check out the shop at www.purpleskunk.com
Keep rollin' and "Go big or Go home"

SECTOR 9 Cosmic Rider
On 10/8/1998 Chris wrote in from ()

This is really a terrific board! the graphics are great. the
flex is amazingly poppy and not soggy like some other slolom
boards. This baby can turn on a dime. It is a great cruiser and is very stable at speed.Running cones is a sinch. It will
gain speed when rapidly pumped.
This is probobly my favorite board out of a wide variety and
is short enough to be convenient.ride this board it's fun and
springy.You'll like it.

My recommended setup:
Trucks:Tracker B2's
Risers:S9 angled risers
Wheels:65mm 9balls
bearings:S9 grease balls
Hardware:S9 1 1/2" 2" combo (makes all hardware at the shortest length)

Keep it rollin' Chris-
