Board Review
Sector 9 Cosmic 2
On 10/7/1998 Mike wrote in from ()

The sector 9 Cosmic 2 is one of the best and most fun boards
I've ever ridden. It flexes downward so the steering is much
sharper. Sliding is real easy, because of how light the board's
weight is. Ollieing is a little more difficult but you do get
the hang of it later. My friend Matt Pluck is going to let me hook
up torsion trucks to it. I'll give you results later.

Real Wood 48"
On 9/22/1998 tom t wrote in from ()

this complete setup rocks!!! It's a classic longboard/cigar shape. It came with X-skate trucks/wheels. Beautifully made.
It's a stiffer, heavier board than I usually ride(sector 9 / gravity). It's more like a surfboard (clear, glassy resin finish) than a laminated street deck.
For such a big cruiser it's pretty nimble, probably because of the X-skate trucks. The only downside is the board is so beautiful, you almost don't want to ding it. I save that for my old Powell.
Replace the stock bearings with Swiss Gold & your flyin' with massive style!!!

Sector 9 Cosmic II
On 9/17/1998 Juan Fungi wrote in from ()

I can't speak ill of other boards as this is my first longboard. What I can say is that it is one sweet ride. I don't trick - 39 year old ankles and knees hurt watching others do it. I like the carve and cruise. It's what made me start skating in 75, brought me back to skating in 90, and keeps me skating now. Whether I'm pumping flats, saloming parking lots or bombing straights, it suits me fine. The flex is great for my 170 lb. (I can bottom it if I stand still and bounce). My only complaint is the kingpin is too short to run the trucks as loose as I'd like (unless you like the sound of hardware jingling along beside you).

D'adv classic longboard and Kapu trucks
On 8/15/1998 Kevin Jordan wrote in from ()

These boards and trucks are the sickest! The new shapes have kick tails, rises in the nose, concave and others have full rocker. The Gerry Lopez Island PRO is the best looking longboard on the market. The new shapes really bring out the sharp turning ability of the trucks. You can turn as sharper than any other board! No wheel bite ever.

ALOHA CUSTOM
On 8/12/1998 Matt Highison wrote in from ()

Ive had this board since the begining of summer and it rocks!!! It has just the right amount of snappy flex to it, and with the molded-in clear grip surface, this thing is a beauty!! It came with Randals, Kryptonics wheels and Kryptonics ABEC 3 bearings, I put some Exkates on it and its even better!! Go for a custom board made by Aloha Skateboards (look in the NCDSA link section)

Flexdex pro41
On 8/10/1998 Tyler wrote in from ()

This board is awesome. One day it was raining and my friend wanted totry it out really bad so he went down his driveway which is like a hill and the board slipped and went into the street. All of the sudden a lincoln comes by and decides to run over my nice new board. I saw the commercials in Surfer magazine when the boards have been run over but i didnt know what would happen. The old geezer in the lincoln ran over the nose and the board flew up into the air. It was probaly the coolest thing I have ever seen. When i went to go get it there was nothing wrong with it except for a tire mark acrosse the nose. So there is a lesson in all of this. flexdex are indestructable. later
shortboards are cool but longboards rule :-)

Why are so many people Anti-Sector9
Is it because they are the most popular
boards? I myself love sector9s

i don'k know of any other companies
that make a wider variety of boards
for a wide variety of styles

They have Trick boards, hill bombing boards, slolem boards
and even new school boards.

A wise message for everybody SHOP SECTOR9

freeride cross-town ride
On 7/15/1998 Michigan Mikey wrote in from ()

I'd have to agree w/ Danny, although I've yet to begin feeling
brainwashed by a Sector9 ad. I worked with Greg at freeride on
my present board. He was very patient and helpful, and did a great
job of hooking me up with some eqpmnt. upgrades (e-xkate trucks and
cherry bomb wheels). The ride is SWEEEEEET, perfect for an older,
heavier guy such as myself - not too much flex, but not too stiff
either, despite the heavy construction. Great shapes and paint/graphics,
not to mention the free t-shirt and stickers. I'm impressed with freeride,
and I'm picky about product quality when it comes to spending my hard-earned $$
on recreation (toys). On the other hand, Sector9 was the FIRST company that
stepped up for product contributions on a local fundraising skate event to help
a skater with leukemia (2 decks, videos, t-shirts, stickers, etc.). Impressed me,
they obviously haven't forgot who butters their bread. Then there's the kind folks at
Bareback (Jenny's a very kind soul), my other board, but I've gone on long enough here.
Go fast, keep smilin' and remember why you're riding a longboard - brand doesn't matter.

Sector 9
On 7/5/1998 dave wrote in from ()

I have a 48" sector 9 pintail and it is the coolest toy I have purchased in a long time. I am 32,and I was there the first time, in the seventies when skating was fun and not all thrash . Things have come a long way, and for the better I might add. Like Tikiman, I too have a bahne, except mine is 27" and and was made in 1975. I don't ride it much anymore, because dispite it's coolness, my sector 9 is much more fun to ride. I have seen bahne's new product, and while the name is the same, the product isn't. The bahnes of yester-year were dead flat and made entirely of fiberglass. No kicktails, no DD signature, no BS. Bottom line, sector 9 brought all the fun back to skating. I cannot understand this persons bad feelings about this company. If nothing else, S-9 has all kinds of soul, and fun boards to back it up. I recomend them highly.

Sector 9
On 7/3/1998 Tan-Dog wrote in from ()

I have 2 Sector 9's, among several boards that I own. Sector 9 and Gravity basically brought the modern longboard to the masses, and for this, guys like Tikiman want to beat them up?! Sector 9 makes a high quality product that works very well. They go to the trouble to laminate their own plywood, have cool shapes and graphics, and the boards work great! I'm sure their are several manufacturers that are producing products that are as good as Sector 9, this leaves us all with a choice, nobody is forcing anyone to buy a particular product. I first saw the Sector 9 adds in the surf mags, I then asked my local skate shop to get one in so I could try it, I then bought one, for this I am forever grateful to Sector 9, cause I am having a ball riding those bad boyz! I make my own boards now, I may even try to market them, but I will always remember Sector 9 as being my re-introduction to skateboarding. Lets not draw a dark cloud over longboarding, it's hard to ride with soul and style when the road is wet and slippery.

SECTOR 9

Sector 9 makes great boards, Tikiman obviously has some self-esteem problems. Maybe he should put all his energy into contributing something usefull to us all, as opposed to bashing Sector 9', a company who knows what it's about. Props to everyone that has positive views and suggestions to give, ride with pride.

Sector 9 Cosmic
On 7/1/1998 Kboy wrote in from ()

Yeah!

Sector's do rock. I just picked up a Cosmic, pretty short, but alot of
fun! I'm still getting used to the incredible amount of flex. I'm used to riding a Gravity
Superflex on Bones Rippers 57's, so being back on fat wheels on a shorter board
is different and pretty cool. The really cool board was the demo version they had at the shop, it's really
broken in and is still flexy, but not to the extreme degree a new board is. I wanted to buy that
one, but they wouldn't let it go. So, I have many hours of breaking in ahead of me, which is alright too!

BAHNE SKATEBOARDS
On 6/15/1998 TIKIMAN wrote in from ()

After waiting many months, we finally got our first shipment of the new deck from those fabulous, furry, Bahne brothers, & let me tell you...it was really worth the wait!!!. It is the Dale Dobson sig. model, & it has magical properties!!!....it can turn a dork into a skating powerhouse... Construction is molded maple(?) with a rather aggresive kick tail...not one of those skinny tails where you have to think where you're placing your foot, but a very generous, wide one whereat you just intuiutively stomp on it & up she goes !. An equally generous outline to the body make switch-stancing a breeze. This deck is quite flexy, but it feels consistent...no soft spots. We've put heavy riders on our demo & it does'nt bottom out, unlike other brands with a lot of initial flex. It is in the mid-size range @ about 45", yet with the ample & critically designed & positioned wheel cut-outs it will accept a very large wheel without any 'bite'. THIS MAY BE THE BEST COMBINATION HIGH PERFORMANCE / CRUISE DECK TO DATE!! Carving on this deck is soooooo smooth & effortless I still can't get over it. There seems no limit to this deck's reserve of 'magic'...slam it hard, it asks for more....turn as sharp as you can.....it mocks you with its stability! Our demo is setup with the ever-wonderful Mr. Madrid's Invaders, 76mm Hypers , abec 3's, ...and....our secret riser mix. THIS IS A "SECTOR KILLER"...so all you weenies who think you're bad-ass carvers on your bad-ass sectors had better rush out now & grab one or the geek with the two left feet will steal your girlfriend's virginity!
