Choose your races crefully

The Ditch Slap entry fee of $75 covers 3 races of your choice out of a possible 6 races. Each additional or any single race is $25. Only 2 of these races require a push start, so just pick the ones that you feel are best suited to your idea of FUN. Flatbar? That looks like a one push high jump to me. Even Indian School needs at least ONE push.
If it's prize money you're after, place FUN on the back burner and let TimeShip challenge you to PUSH yourself into all kinds of skating. The Very Vert Skatepark race will be the one place that we won't see a single push, but then I could be wrong. Downhillers love to push, and some locals like Palmer and Brunson actually push where no one else would dare to (down the start at the Bear!) and they win for it! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. The roll in put a stop to that....for now.
Pushing is vital to skating and always has been, but the BEST thing about it is that no one can tell you when to do it! You choose. You can also choose not to do any races and just enjoy shuttle rides up countless ditches and not push at all. A tally for registered riders will be kept by the shuttles so that we can estimate your total pushless miles!
In Downhill racing we call pushing "kicking" and reserve the word "pushing" for heated debates about who sent whom into the hay bales.

Does Bode Miller cross country ski his way into the starting gate? Does Kelly Slater compete in paddle races on the way to the Pipe Masters? Does Shaun White hiking the back country help him spin 1080s?
I'm down with cross training but it shouldn't be the determining factor in a downhill race.
Pushing has NOTHING to do with ditch racing. IMHO.
Save the pushing for your approach to the flatbar.

Pinch Pushers

There will be 2 races that will require pushing, and they will both have prize money to entice you pushless old farts to enter. The Bear and Katesnips will be roll in starts, no pushing. The Chinese Ditch Race will have a push start, push middle and push end. How else are you going to cover 5 miles? Harper Ditch Race will have unlimited push start but TSR will offer a handicap for invalids like yourself. Please read the following rule amendment carefully.
After some serious policy debate, TimeShip Racing will allow "Pinch Pushers" for the start only. If you really are feeling that weak, you may choose to have another skater push you into the course, up to the timing gate. Both skaters need to be on their boards with the pinch pusher doing the kicking and the "racer" with both feet on his board, whining "faster, Faster!" You can dedcide how to best split the prize money.

Ian - Do not publsh any of your work locally. The skaters have an uneasy truce with the ditch rangers. They let us ride the ditches as long as we are chill about it and don't rub their noses in it.
A front page article on the Trib may be a feather in your cap but it puts us one step closer to having this terrain taken away for good.

I am doing graduate thesis work on concrete arroyos in Albuquerque and I'm wanting to interview skaters about their experiences. Please contact me at my email address to contribute online or i can arrange to interview ABQ locals in person.

Ditch Slap '07 will put you into some of the best ditches in the world! We'll be racing the same course at Harper that we raced in 2003.

You can see the bottom of Carmel from I25 if you look east shortly before the tramway exit headed north.

My brain just can't process it without actually meeting kate, so I think you should invite her to the race so we can ALL make the connection. Catnip is just another powerful herb, a connection my failing brain cells CAN make. Once someone gets hurt there we could call it Blue Cross Blue Shield. If PALMER wins we'll call it whatever he says we should.
Have you ever ridden the one just south of there that leads into the Balloon Fiesta Park? Easily shuttled and GNARLY surface! It drew blood just walking down to check it out.

No pushing needed or allowed at Indian School or The Qualifier. Keep yer feet on the board where they belong and you won't end up like Lange. Well maybe not.

That's a sick picture, and a good warning to the "Langer style" hell bent on winning type of racers. You can come and ride and have fun and go home with noodle legs and a sunburn, OR you can come and Push, Pump and POWER your way down the courses and go home with $$$$ and road rash. This guy was pushing on the walls, around the cones and everywhere he could get a foot down!
