Barstow is now Ventura
On 6/15/2022 B-L wrote in from United States  (76.120.nnn.nnn)

Hey K-LEE, as confirmed from this year's Ditch Slap, what used to be called Barstow is now called Ventura Ditch...

And how's it going? Been able to skate much? I have been trying to find people to skate with, and I think we are starting to get a group going here in Pittsburgh, so I have been out a few times.

Rancho de Palomas
On 7/13/2020 K-LEE wrote in from United States  (73.98.nnn.nnn)

My old photo links have died. Here is a repost of what was once called "Barstow", and I am now calling Rancho de Palomas. You cannot tell from the photo much, but this one is pretty deep and round, and on a good downhill pitch with a waterfall half way through. Floating long extended carves like no other.

My email still works. For anyone that tried to contact me last year, there was a spam issue happening, and you might have fallen into a trap. Sorry for that.

Good to hear from you Steve! I regret not ever getting a chance to skate with you. I hope the BEAR did not scare you away from ditches permanently. I revisited that place a few weeks ago. It is hard to believe we had such big events there. The businesses are more developed now, I doubt we could get away with such an event at that particular spot. Not with the start ramps and boom boxes at least.

The one and only Indian School Ditch
On 1/27/2019 K-LEE wrote in from United States  (73.98.nnn.nnn)

Hi Myles,

Well, you and your friends are probably completely spoiled then. There simply AREN'T any ditches that are comparable to Indian School. It stands in a class of its own, by far.

However, there are a handful of ditches around town (ABQ) that are really really fun and smooth. They just aren't anywhere as fast/steep/epic as Indian School.

My personal faves are Barstow, Cracker Barrel, and 3-mile, although I hit up Indian School from time for speed runs and thrills. The others tend to be better session ditches, where you can just mess around in one section instead of bombing down from top to bottom.

If/when you make it to ABQ, hit me up, the email address above works.

Albuqerque Ditches
On 11/16/2018 Myles wrote in from Canada  (70.70.nnn.nnn)

My friends and I made the trip from Vancouver to Albuquerque for the first time last year. We had such an amazing time riding the Indian School ditch for two days. This year we are going back for even longer. Wondering if anyone can suggest any other ditches that are close to as fun as the Indian School ditch?

Ditch boards
On 8/26/2018 K-LEE wrote in from United States  (73.26.nnn.nnn)

Oh yeah, I totally remember those Kendall Cruz Control decks. With Bombers, eh? 60mm? Indy or Ace, or something else?

Lately, depending on what I want to do and which ditch I am riding, I am split between two decks, only one of which I have good pics of at the moment.

It's either this, for speed and flow:

Or else a more standard Lib Tech Coffin that I have set up with 90a Z-Wheels and Thunder trucks for more session-oriented riding.

Yes it's me, we walked that whole ditch in 2004 and skated a bunch of sections but the one by Lowes is kinda hard to not get stuck at
Been too long, when I get out of my penalty phase I got a goal.

Dan! Good ol' Dan, the one that used to come out and have SkateRock Weekends with me? How have ya been, buddy?!!?

Remember when we hit up the ditch behind Lowe's hardware store? The picture below is the same ditch, just up higher. "Upper Lowes", or maybe Barstow Ditch I think some call it. Seriously, one of my ultimate faves, I have no idea how we missed this one back in the day.

I miss this place too. I can't believe all the parks that have been built! I just got back from Durango and they have a really awesome spot built. I got to admit I cannot drop into the "big" bowl at the 10 ft mark!

As the weather cools, I am going to have to get out to Albuquerque, my work schedule isn't really clear until November but I need to make a trip. Got some new 187 knee pads and need to break em in. If I could figure out how to post pictures, all my photobucket stuff is gone.

So yes, I am still around and still skating and still having fun doing the sidewalk surfing, ditch and park when I can. Good to hear from you and great to see that ditch!

On 9/18/2017 K-LEE wrote in from United States  (73.26.nnn.nnn)

That ditch is from God's Land of Ditches in ABQ, NM. Check the first few pages of the banks & ditches thread for a bit of history. You (loneskater) and I were #3 and #4 to post on this same forum back in 2002. 15 yeas ago. Wow. Where's the rest of the crew? I miss this site, it was literally my first (and best) experience with "social media".

repairing banks, patching banks
On 8/19/2013 Curt wrote in from United States  (68.165.nnn.nnn)

Hey, anyone done any concrete or asphalt patching? I came across a sweet bank today that had a 2" gap between the asphalt and the sidewalk next to it. It would be a decent ride except for that. I can hit the local Home "Despot" and do my own research, but if anyone has experience I can learn from, I'd love some pointers.

Banks aplenty
On 5/27/2012 Tacoma Grrl wrote in from United States  (72.244.nnn.nnn)

It's worth a trip down here to check the banks. Most of South Tacoma Way from 56th St southward is banked. Look for banks on sidestreets and parking lots too. It's nuts. I recommend making a leash for your deck though, like a snowskate, so it doesn't shoot out into traffic. Have fun!

Go to google street view: 7028 south tacoma way, tacoma wa. hell ya. That is just a taste.

Banks, ditches EDMONDS WASHINGTON

Still out there? I found some rad banks at the St. Vincent de Paul thriftstore in Kenmore off the main drag
7304 NE Bothell Way
Kenmore, WA 98028

I haven't skated it yet because I'd have to go when both the store and coffee stand are closed and Kenmore is crawling with bored cops in general, so maybe dusk?
It's up your way, so if you hit it, report back and/or let us know where to send contribution to your ticket. :)

banks, ditches EDMONDS WASHINGTON
On 6/27/2011 Greta wrote in from United States  (67.101.nnn.nnn)

Sorry man, I have searched and there are few banks floating around the Seattle area. Paved drainage ditches are non existent. There are rough pebbly banks at Garfield High School in Seattle, right on a busy street, so be sure you or your board don't go sailing out there. There's a little bank/loading dock in a parking lot on Broadway between Pike and Pine in Seattle's Capitol Hill Neighborhood and I sometime skate a teeny weeny bank at Stevens School at 19th and Galer also in Capitol Hill. If you find anything, please share the love, because that's all I've got. Good luck!
PS: the skate park at Burien has some nice banks and is old school, you might like it.
