In case you hadn't noticed, they bill all their wheels as being "Very fast. Very cool." Since you posted in the Slalom forum I'm guessing you are think of using these for slalom... dont. No double-radiused wheel will grip well enough for running cones.

for those of you looking for cheap wheels and will be at La Costa, i can still get three-four sets of yellow 62mm 78a Hyper Rollos, plastic hub/core with printed wheels. lightly used. i will bring a few with me to trade as i hear they make good rear wheels. if you need a set let me know they are thrift shop cheap. they do grip and ride smooth.

comet meteors & hyper shamans
On 10/3/2001 jonathan wrote in from (63.208.nnn.nnn)

hey scabs,
thanks for the picture of the meteors, we just got the wheels 2 days ago. the question is-where did you get the
samples for the picture?! by the way,84a & 92a coming soon,as anyone who slaloms knows-many different wheels are needed for all the different conditions we encounter,be it pavement, temperature, rider style, etc.

hey martin,
it was nice meeting you in cambria, hope your shoulder's doing better.concerning your post on the hyper "racing slicks"-i've got some hyper shamans(in pink 92a)with the aluminum core.typically i run 88a front wheels & 78a on the rear to start the day-it's a great universal set-up. but last sunday it was HOT(90 degrees or more) in golden gate park and that set-up was just plain slow. lots of grip, but slow.i shifted to v-12's(82a?) in the rear and it helped a bit. then i threw the shamans on the front and it helped a lot. way faster. something in 84a 0n the back and i would have been totally dialed(thoughts of robbing gary holl's 84a stradas crossed my mind but he looks sort of tough and moves to fast, anyways).under the right conditions the shamans smoke. i custom ground the outside radius flat and will test them this weekend, conditions allowing-if it's cool out they may be just to hard & slippery-and will keep all informed.i got my shamans straight from bravo, they are spendy, and i'm not sure where else to get them.maybe a rollerskate retailer.

Mark at Poolskater just confirmed: Strada molds, 8mm spacers so these will work just fine on the new seismic 110s.

shaft wood
On 10/3/2001 stevem wrote in from (131.193.nnn.nnn)

I can't remember the exact story behind the shaft woods, but it went along the lines of; an old pro-skaters distribution company is named shaft wood. He had them laying around, or poured (?) then threw his logo on em. I think Mark over at Poolskater can give ya the scoop.

Oversized
On 10/2/2001 Chris Chaput wrote in from (63.168.nnn.nnn)

Herbn, They're 74mm tall x 40mm wide with a 50mm centerset hub. The durometer is 75a. Take a 52mm wide wheel and cut 6mm off of each side. Leave the edges square.

A 62mm wheel with a 38mm hub (like the Strada) has the same "depth" of urethane on it (12mm). With a much taller wheel on the same hub, you probably couldn't use a formula that soft because it would deform too much in hard turns.

That size wheel for slalom is fast, but not quick. You have to put a lot of energy into your turns to get them up to speed and as a result, you need the extra traction that the softer compounds provide. When you do get them going, they maintain speed well and are especially good for fast GS style courses.

Hyper "Metal Head" Racing Slicks.....
On 10/2/2001 Martin"its still raining in the UK"Drayton wrote in from (213.123.nnn.nnn)

Hey wheel afficionados,
Just got hold of some funky looking Hyper rollerskate wheels that are flouro pink (way brighter than the Stradas)with a non-spoked aluminium core(with graphics to make it look spoked!),a grooved running surface, 62mm and around 92-ish? Oh, they have minging graphics too...They look a bit like Richies 'Shamans'....
Anyone ever come across them before? They seem like they might be pretty good as a front wheel on a smooth surface....
Guess they're coming to the Farm for testing.

Glen,

Very good question, I know that we shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, but do we need all these new wheels of exactly the same durometer and shape? I know everyone was using 78 and 88 duro wheels before, but there wasn't any choice! How many people were searching fruitlessly for Hypers in 92 and 84, or pink, blue or orange Kryps?

I think V-12 were very brave as a new outfit to stick their necks out and go for a dedicated 'slalom' shaped wheel AND make it in a different durometer. Personally, I find it the most versatile wheel I own and look forward to their next release!

Martin
Proud to be the first overseas...
KNUCKLEHEAD...Since Oct'01.

ps.Anyway, good luck to G&S,Krypto and Comet, their success benefits us all. They're still wicked wheels!

Not all the wheels are the same and the chrome classics are definately NOT up to par. Cheaper `thane and sloppy pour. At least in the case of the set I have.
