Dan, I had my randals pretty tight. I could still carve but I felt relly stable too. I have a blue soft hardcore on the bottom of both trucks and and med on top up front and a hard on top in the back. I even had the trucks wedged a little for more turn. I suggest the randal dh trucks if you want to go really fast with stability. I dont own em put I have tried them. Hope this helps.

Hey Civ
How tight did you have your Randal R2 150's when you were going at 70 kph?
I'm just curious how stable these trucks are at high speeds.
I like to keep my trucks as loose as possible for easier carving (I don't weigh a lot), but I do worry about wobbles if for some reason I end up going too fast.

I think its great to see girls out skating. I was skating with a couple great girls on the weekend, doing downhill and slalom stuff. I love to see girls who rip too, this girl Mia I was skatin with was awesome, bustin slides and flying through cones. Personally I would love to find more girl to skate with...my two favorite things in one place.....

not all guys are lugnuts. That cracked my stuff up.
From another girl skater (even though I'm not all that good), I bet the dude was hella intimidated. All of a sudden, there's a chick doing a stereotypically guy thing, and you're on his turf, and probably better than he is at it. Makes guys uncomfy.
If I met a guy who wasn't super impressed that I ride, I'd whack him with my board. All the guys I've talked to, and all the things I've heard point towards guys lamenting the dearth of female skaters. And I always get super excited when I see other chicks riding too. Makes me want to go say hi, but when I don't have my board, I always get afraid that they'll think I'm psycho, coming up to randomly talk to 'em. Ohwell.
Ride on, Sam.

Well let the h0dad tell you that contrary to real-life TV shows, ie. Fear Factor, Big Brother, talk-back morning radio battle-of-the-sexes discussions etc., not every guy is a lug-nut.
h0dad thinks there arent enough girls skating and speculates that it may be due to the extra pressure of being stared out extra hard by members of joe dropjaw public and assorted little grommits.

Hey, this is a question for the guys. ok, i skate, pretty much all the time, man, this sounds really immature, but do guys not like to see girls out there skateboarding, i mean, when you see a girl skating, do you think shes a guy for doing it, cuz i really like this guy, he;s a jock, and im into sports too, but im also into skating. This guys kinda acts wierd tawards me after he saw me carving it up? I just wanna know what guys think of girls who skate?

speaking of surfing, i was out at the coast a couple weeks ago and it was the first time i had had a chance to surf in about a year cause of my college schedule, i try go dawn patrol stye on mondays or tuesdays when the water is emty not to go on the weekends because you could consider me a Val(inland surfer that gets no respect from the locals, mostly shortboarders) thats OK though cause surfing is part of me regardless of what local assh*les say. thinkin i would have forgot how to even drop in let alone float a sic turn of the lip with my 9.0, or nose ride. But i been feedin my soul with the long skate ripin every day, sure enough after about 1/2 hour or so, after geting the timing down, it was pure poetry, like ridin a bicycle i don't think you forget how. Just goes to show you how similar the are. so when you're out lay soul carve today touch the ground frontside and backside and hail the Duke for spreadin the good word about surfing, cause skatboarding is a beautiful evolution. peace d

Kate, I was reading through some posts and saw your comment about Boulder. Having carved hills all over the place I have to say that there are some great hills in Boulder. One I like is 14th starting at Baseline all the way down to College...you have to roll through 2 stop signs, but if there's a car you can usually just carve around the surprised driver. Carving different runs on the Hill was better in the summer when the students weren't back in town and there was less traffic, but I still try to hit up some hills every day before it gets all cold and snowy and all gravelly on the roads.

Had great night skating last week, I had some time off work and hit my favorite spot. I need to explain this hill, Its about 1.5 miles long, 7%grade 2 nice corners, and its down the side of the Niagra Escarpment. There is a bridge half way down with one small expansion joint. Earlier in the summer this hill was unrideable from the top, due to the terrible surface and hugs gaps in the road at the bridge. One could only start at the bottom of the bridge. Steep section yes, but very short at 60 kpm. This summer the entire hill was repaved and the bridge was totally replaced. No this hill is 70kph+, and thats me kinds carving the top without aero tuck. Im working on the tuck but I want my full face for that.
Anyway, I was riding my Landy Urban assualt, with r2 150`s and 75a flashbacks. I wendge my trucks so there level rather than steeply wedged like the deck implies. Those wheels on new pavement are incredible, sooo fast and I had total confidence in them for grip. I cant wait for the gumballs that should be here any day now.
I took the hill from the top and tried to go fast so no traffic would catch me. Just my luck, a truck catches me. I pull into the middle of the lane so that he cant pass me because thats just asking for it. At the bottom he pulls up to tell me how cool he thought it was and tell me my speed of 70kph. Pretty fun experience. I learned on the hill and I am still learning on it thanks to so great work be the city...thanks guys. Glad the taxes are going to the right place. Excuse my ranting.......I tend to babble at litle online.
Always push your self a little bit, its when you get complacent that bad things happen. Gotta be focused, thats how I keep my skin...well most of it.

Any one had experience with Seismics? I was thinking of putting a pair on my 44.5" Bozi Board, mostly for soul carving, but a friend said to stick with my Randall II's, he said the smooth slaloming feel is lost with the seismics...anyone out there soulcarved on both seismic 180 and Randall II 180's? Thanks to all.

Sam,
It's a fine balance between tightening your trucks too much and leaving them loose enough to carve out a hill. Meaning if you're getting wobs often, then try tightening the trucks a little bit more. However, you may want to consider leaving them loose enough so that you can carve out the hill to control the speed so that you don't reach a high speed where you get the wobs.
The second thing to try is to get a set of trucks that are designed to be more stable at speed like Randals or Seismics, which tend to stabalize at speed yet let you carve freely.
Finally, there are a couple of other things that you can try that involve wedging you trucks like slalom guys do for giant slalom racing.
Hope this helps.

Good day the other day . I was traveling and passed an old favorite run. Rallied my beginner friend and hit it up. At the end of my second lap, the grand final slide, my wheel pops off as I stop. biker family rides by. Close call. Go to the second run. My buddy goes first. Watch him make a fine run until he tries to ride it out. Speed wobles... I think he's going to make it. nope, they got worse. Watch him roll into the grassy dirt. Comes up fast holding his hand. Hang out at the er for awhile, read Time...Ban Bush in 2004. Cool W-ray. Now I'm back home...surrounded by really scary hills. Dreaming of fresh pavement.

"every 5 miles faster is a whole brave new world"..of adrenaline or pain..depends on such things as helmets and other accessories. h0dad's philosophy is that one should always expect a wipeout. Having said that, h0dad is hypocrite, being one to skate back from the pub, through traffic, with a dozen beers, always a good look!

Sam, I was just being funny, but of course it is speed that causes speed wobble. Getting a board that is set up for speed will help. Tightening trucks can help, changing bushings, changing truck angle with risers... trying different trucks ( I really like the torsion trucks by exkate. com for wobble controll under 40mph)...
Differnt decks too. Longer wheel base will provide more stability. In short, with so many set ups possible, and all riding a little different. Any reason to get a new set up is good.
A forward stance, with some easy carving - weigth on front foot - that seems to "carve out wobbles" some. Pick a hill that you think might cause some wobble, but won't kill you, and try carving it up a little to controll the wobbles.
Happy carving Sam.
