Per phone call today the hill is available so, barring mechanical vehicle problems, the Slalom-food-n-blab-fest appears to be a GO!
Remember: HELMETS, WATER, BROOMS, CONES
Thanks - The Management.

As per phone call today 6-13-2018, the Bush Park SBD hill is still open for our non-scheduled drop-in use of that specific municipal recreation facility. Stay tuned, one more call planned for 6-15-2018.
Depending on ambient temperature and available pre-event preparation time, the food may be BBQ or Subway subs. Stay tuned.
Thanks - The Management.

Salem Slalom BBQ Water Blue-Green Algae Alert!

Hey folks, Salem has been having a bit of a blue-green algae (and it's toxins) problem lately, nothing serious unless you're young, old and or already sick with something. That said, I'll have my usual extra water but you might want to bring plenty of your own water also so you don't have to rely on the drinking fountain at the top of the hill. Don't be scared - be prepared! Thanks - The Management.

I think those guys all ate each other. Not like zombies per se, but like regular run-of-the-mill cannibals. More or less. Something like that happened anyway, as I recall. As the years have gone by, it's gotten sorta fuzzy.
Hope that helps.

As of a phone call 4-14-2018, the SBD hill is still unreserved and open for us to BBQ on, and skate if anyone stops blabbing and eating long enough to get on their boards and ride down the hill. Thanks - Assistant to the management.

Hard to believe in 2001 La Costa was taking place, thanks to Mr. Hester and the numerous helpers and volunteers. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
I am thankful to be able to skate and know there are still many of the first and second generation of skaters from clay wheels still skating today and passing it on. It is my tradition to try and get on here every Thanksgiving and say hay to all of you thanks for the races. Miko, Gorman, Cliff, Noah, Byrd, Dave, Ick Sticks, Arab, Mr. Turner (RIP), Howard Gordon (RIP), BLR, FCR, O Shei's, and many others, I know many of you are still on the four wheel thing that brings a smile to us.
Put down some cones, turn!

I was 'snowboard Race training' at this one N. Mass location (nice, new tar, only ghosts, and acorns in the way) with a pair of Carver Students this Sunday. AWEsome Weather, stuff we would never see 'in the day' this time of year (sweat dripping off my brow, yeah, NOT late Autumn-like for these parts of the woods!). Well, I have at this spot, several grades to pick from, 6.5% down to 2%. We set-up on the 6% side first, which was to much, with pine needles/acorns reducing grip. But, my old Bozi G.S.was still finding grip, somehow (and in it's swb/4 wheel set-up), but couldn't get the 'chicane' 6'-spaced set at the bottom. But, using a Hybrid Turner, I could make the course and be comfy at the end. Funny how a few (actually, 2.125") inches of wheelbase will change your agility, foot position, and top-end speed! All variables, built on variables, made from how well YOU move. It isn't a science, as in,'I have The Formula', but there are parameters one has to, um, 'calculate' , upon best guesses, to find the limits and 'best fit'.

OK, the weather forcast doesn't look optimal but it's not that bad either, some fog each morning Friday, Sat and Sunday with cool foggy nights, so the pavement may be damp at first but should dry out. I'm sticking with Sept 24th 2017 since otherwise my sketch 2nd job at the sketch hospital is too unpredictable to change otherwise. You know the deal.
Special "Maybe" bonus: If I have enough time to get everything together, I'm going to light the BBQ with a bow-drill stone-age style, so tell all your friends.
Thanks - The Management

As to the 6 wheeler question, both Arab and Chaput must be in agreement on this. Where is Criddle when you need him?

If someone needs a room for Fri and/or Sat nights in Salem email me with the email-name-click-thingy. I've got a room with 2 beds at the Motel 6 where I've stayed in the past with no complaints.
One caveat - JBH sorta has first dibs.
But, I'm also normally a floor sleeper at home and if people want to pack into the room like the good 'ol days of racing's heyday not so many years ago, fine.
Adios - PTH

1) Please make sure you're signing up for the actual event(s) you're planning on, there seems to be some confusion between the events people think they're signing (or not signing) up for.
2) If you're attending the West Coast Championship (REAL race), you need to actually signup on the contest calender so Brad, Maria and Lynn know how to plan for things like T-shirts, food, etc. Just "Facebooking" "Dude, I'm in and it's ON" doesn't count as a signup.
Thanks - Your Mom.

OK,so it's looking more likely that this whole SKATEBOARD SLALOM WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIP thingy is going to happen in Salem Saturday July 15th and Sunday July 16th 2017.
As in, "official", with scheduled use of the Soap Box Derby hill with the City of Salem, event papers filled out,and whatever sorts of things that need doing in order to have a actual, you know "racing event". Thank You Lynnibob.

OK, so Brad is planning July 16th-ish 2017, same as what the BBQ was going to be, but since absolutely no information is coming from www.salemsbd.or and calling and emailing them has been fruitless, both the BBQ and West Coast Championship events are currently not on any "hard" dates since I guessing the Salem Parks-n-Rec will give the Salem Soap Box Derby Club priority on whatever dates they want to use the hill, since it was made for them and at least partly paid for by them.
Brad and I need to get ahold of each other and find out what we're doing.
The BBQ will likely be moved a bunch earlier or later.
