breaking kingpins

firstly, it may look like a bolt, but it is truely being used as a stantion. it should be refered to as a stantion or "kingpin". the rules for bolts need not apply if the stantion is properly designed.
now, i have tried in the past to start a rumour as to why the radikal trucks keep breaking kingpins. the reason is obvious and has nothing to do with matiral choice. they can all be improved with the addition of 1 part. i cannot give it away. i will leave the solution to come from the designer.
for the record. from my knowlage, only 1 PVD truck has ever failed. the actual forces that caused it are still in question, but the fix is known.

Eddy sorry to hear about the coponents. There seems to be no cure for the service woes. It's unfortunate about the body pains hopefully you'll heal up real quick.
Wedging & De-wedging is of personal preferences test it all out and you'll out what works best for you. Then you will also make adjustments for different courses.
Yes, Split-fires seem to be the new ticket for a lot of people.

Obviously there is much more to the story than this.

Shouldn't break.
Period.
Common engineering practice dictates that a bolt may only be loaded in shear, double shear, or tension.
There is no other application for a bolt.

Just got off the phone with Jack. Radikal will replace both trucks and hopefully I will have them before I leave to compete in Austin. It could be that the pair that broke are the first original Radikals. Thanks Jack I appreciate it bro. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws.

De-Wedging an Offset

For TS, you may well want to de-wedge it abit...maybe 5* or 7.5* and not the full 10*.For Cyber, it's all about generating speed with both your push and your pump.
Best to make a run under the steepest, fastest conditions you think you'll experience, and de-wedge to the edge of your comfort level. I de-wedge all the offsets that I have with quicker geometries (Indy, RTX, TTC) and run flat those with angled pivots (like my Geezer-X Suregrip & RTS's).

De-Wedging an Offset

De-wedge or run flat to your heart's content. Many people do not like much turning out of their rear truck, that is a more likely reason to de-wedge than any possible gain in traction.

De-wedge an offset?

I just got a set of Chindy's. Both 88mm with a rear offset. Currently I'm running Tracker RT-S/X and have them set up with 10º wedges (positive front and negative rear). What I was wondering is should I run the offset de-wedged?
It would seem like I could (or should) run it flat since I'd gain a bit of rear tracking but still maintain traction that the offset affords. Am I thinking correctly? I suppose I could answer my own question if I could get out of the house and try it for myself but there's about an inch of snow out right now so I'm just sitting here thinking about it.
Oh and this setup will be mainly for TS and Cyber if that helps.

September 27th I take slam when my swing arm on my back Radikal truck breaks, I Fed Ex it overnight to Florida. No DHB Race for me. Speak to Sparky, call Mark, email Jack, talk To Keith. Still no back truck. Fast forward to the present. Tonight we are listening to satelite radio Fungus 53 , Skanoria Hour. Gumby, Turtle, and myself are running some cones, we are preparing for the 2nd Outlaw Slalom Race Series in Austin,Tx on Dec 10 th. We leave on Friday morning on Dec 9th. I cut around the a cone and all of a sudden I am pitch forward, airborne, "man the stars ar beautiful tonite" land flat on my back. Broken Kingpin. I will Fed Ex my Front Radikal Truck to Mark on Monday. Will I have another set of Radikals on my doorstep by before Friday the 9th. I really do not think so. Joe I, I ordered a Split-Fire from Gary, I heard they sold out like Hotcakes. I hope I get one. Time to take a Vicodin, warm bath, these old bones hurt. I still beleive in Radikal trucks, fastest turning trucks on the market. New Texas Outlaws I will see you on December the 10th, I may be limping and bruised bros, but I will be there. The one thing I did beleive in tonite was my Pro-Designed Pads made in Texas. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws:(

hey nick, which is better depends what kind of riding you're doing most of the time. Here's a quick summary, I've posted comparison pics of both up on pavedwave.org, "gear" page.
C7 - Flatland. A tension spring + rotating discs + hangar + set of bushings. Complex design, very loose and surfy feel, nice as an indoor or parking lot non-stop pumping board. Harder to turn once you're going fast downhills because the front truck action's very loose.
CX - Hill carving or Flatland. One swiveling hangar + set of bushings. Simple design, more like a standard truck. Snappier surfy feel, easy to adjust return to center by tightening the kingpin nut. Handles higher speeds with stability.

We have been discussing this on the pumping forum here. From what I can gather the best pumping trucks are carver cx, RTR and original. Check out the pumping forum for more info. Also check out the gear section of www.pavedwave.com for detailed info about pumping set ups and pumping trucks.

I'm with PaulW,
I've got the same 12" Skaterbuilt/215 Indys w/ Grindking pins and I'm using hard Bones bushings...
I weigh in at a bushing destressing 200lbs. so on this W-I-D-E set up the leverage over powers these bushings and they feel soft, yet they're excellent for just carving around our skatepark's smallish bowl and banks. The Bones have lasted awhile also...

Tom, Definitely, definitely take out those stock bushings from your Indys. I've had great results, just from swapping the stock bushings for Indy's red/orange/black replacements. I ride a Skaterbuilt 12, with pos-wedged Indy 215s that have got GK kingpins and black (hard) Indy bushings. I can dig out big turns and the whole setup can be pumped like a short slalom board etc. I've had good results on my son's deck with Khiros too. So, change the bushings on those Indys and give them a go...

Hey, go to: www.asphaltplayground.com. The Phase III's are out and in both 90mm (95mm?) and 107mm. Unless everyone gobbled them up right away, there should be some available. Email Fluitt from the AP website to get the status on that. Adios-P

been carving local bowls now on my RII 180s w 70mm Grippins, at a 24.5" wb. It's a pretty maneuverable set-up, but I'm looking for trucks that turn even sharper. I have a pair of unused Indy 169s, but the stock bushings are rock-hard . Think those would work with softer bushings?

hey paul, got dave's mail and pinged some of the seattle crew about it, no word yet. But I'm out Sunday, we're going to briefly skate the velodrome in the morning then I got a family gig.
Thanks again for the rear split-fire tips, cinching up the back nut - just need a new pivot cup now!
Any idea when Fluitt's making more 90mm hangars??!! They've been sold out a while now...
