In respnse to Damion
Try telling the boyz at Gravity or Sector 9 that longboards are JUST for cruising and not tricks and ollies. Watch the videos at any good shop. Don't generalize about longboarding !
Longboards are for all and get used for loads of different styles of riding.
Uno just try one and you'll be hooked

In response to UNO --> A longboard is just for cruising and doing carving turns like on a snowboard, you dont really do tricks like kick lfips, etc. on longboards
u just cruise

I live in Utah, and have snowboarded for a long time
I am thinking about getting a longboard but i want
to know how a long board is different from a skateboard, in terms
of what you do on it. (I have looked at many longboards so dont say
"they are longer")

I ride a sector 9 cosmic rider and have 73 mm gravity wheels with hubs, I like to ride with toe clips so I can leap trash cans in a single bound. I can do 180 grabs about 2and a half feet above the ground. I am still working on my 360 grabs. I love to surf and snow board. with my new board in the works I will be able to to do ita all on one single board ya known spin, carve, and take on any hill I choose.

I am new at longboarding. I have a BareBack board (the one that looks like a snowboard and has anti wheel bite holes in the deck), what is the easiest way to stop or slow down?

Choose a sector 9 "original downhill" model. Some are thicker than others so check it first. This board is built to last and if you add Randal trucks to it you'll be the king of the hill. Bye brah!

question; i wanna get a board, i've skated for years and have been doing hill runs since i was a mere child. but that was on shortboards. i'm 5'9", 200 lbs. I live in the coolest hills/mountians in the world and so carving fast and bomb runs are the poo. can someone give me a hint about what set up would be the best for me. i'm interested in a pintail style with flex, any suggestions?

I didn't see anyone with this style suggestion so here's one of my favorite ways to cruise. Ok, anyone can tell me if they think this is kiddie or ghetto style but I love it! Lie down with your belly on the board and get your knees comfortable on the back of the board. the front trucks should be near your throat. Find a killer hill and FLY!! Don't forget to tighten your trucks and wear some rollerblade wrist guards for brakes if needed.
E-mail me with your thoughts. Sk8 hard and have fun.

Aways stand with your front foot halfway over the front truk
keep pleanty of preasure on it=thios helps for containing
speedwobbles and for carving with soft wheels. Most of all
ALWAYS STAY RELAXED

Skating while on drugs? What are you, retarded? If you are doing runs where you can be stoned to make it, you are a pussy and need to find some steeper hills. If bombing huge hills isn't exciting enough, doing more drugs won't help, you moron.

I've been riding my longboard for about a month now, having previously only snowboarded...I find that if I don't see bad pavement up ahead, or a big rut when I'm bombing downhill, it doesn't affect me....but if I do see it, and let it worry me, I might as well already have crashed. Same for tight fast turns....if you think in yourm ind that you'll make it, you will, but if you think oh shit, I'm gonna bail, you probably will...

Technical difficulties sorry Tighten your trucks so that you can just bearly carve and get the biggest wheels you can find. Get a ride to the top of the steepest hill that you can find start off in either standing or in a tuck (knees bent in the squatting position left hand grabbing the side of the board between your legs) just bomb until you are about to get the speed wobbles and then get in to the tuck position if you haven't already put the free hand down of the ground wearing a leather work glove or something and put some weight on it now lean back and turn tightly in which ever direction your front foot is (left or right) now you are fakie if you had enough speed going you did a 180 now revert. Stay in the same position just lean the other way and slide back to the original position. have any other questions E-mail me stinson@wave.net

People in this site say don't skate faster than you can run but I live in ashland oregon on the north side of the siskiou summit and the funnest thing that I ever did was bomb down it on a 48 inch sector9 with some specialized trucks and some 70mm kryptonics. The best part about this 55mph experience was the looks on the people's faces as I passed them on I-5. My advice to you is skate fast and learn how to do a tuck slide simmilar to a coleman slide but funner and less complicated. I'm goofy so reverse this if you are not:

You do not need a longboard to skate hills and speed carve.
I ride a Powell "Hot Rod Flames" board (9 3/8" x 33 3/4")
with soft 72mm wheels. I bomb hills and pop fat floating
ollies at the same time. When I'm skating street I can
still do 180 ollies, tailgrabs, pop-shove-it's, and whatnot.
Of course, pools and ditches are the best rush. I have the
freedom of a longboard but the versatility of a street deck.
It's the best of both worlds. Don't get restricted by style,
unless that's what you like. Each to his own. Keep it real
and soulful, whatever you ride.

No hills here in Daytona so I shoot some of the bridges-one new one has only one grate and you can ride right over it! Oh yeah we have a pretty decent park here also so cut your board in half and skate like a man. Dashout

I am a surfer by heart, but I just moved off to Texas for college, and there aren't any waves for me. I just purchased a longboard in hopes it could help cure some of my depression...but I don't know any moves. I have NO idea how to even start. If there is anyone who knows of some basic stuff I should start learning, I would REALLY appreciate hearing from you. Thanks a lot guys...
Later,
Andy (("

Today I found that trying to do a hard grab-rail turn on a brand new set of weels is not a good riding technique. After I slid sideways and went flying off of my board, I skinned my forearm, shoulder, butt, hip, and tore my jeans because I had a set of keys in my pocket. ouch....

Best thing for beginners:

LEARN TO RUN REALLY FAST. This will save you skin in the
future! The stopping techniques are great, but can be
tricky to learn. To control your speed the best way is to
carve HARD! Stay strait for speed and carve to slow it down
some. Those soulful pics of folks riding barefoot...
another bad idea for beginners. Wear shoes and at least
some knee and /or elbow pads. Above all stay soulful. It'll
come to you.
