Joseph,
I am trying to make a trip in November. The last time I visited I stayed in Coogie Beach and the Sydney area for a month and then stayed another month in Queensland. I stayed in Mooloolaba, at the Gold Coast and went to Brisbane many times. If I make it in November, I'm still not sure where I will visit. Where are you located?

hc, r.ene
might be cause I'm 145 lbs and I don't hit supersonic speeds but the cosmic is my best/easiest sliding board so far (once again I'm just learning). the second would be the supaflex dragon 140 (with darts 184), which is factory drilled for 3 diferrent back truck positions/flexes, with the soft flex feeling too saggy even for me.

Ohr,
Where are you located Down Under? It would be nice to visit again for a month or so. I was thinking about possibly in November. Just an idea now. I love Australia.

i was just looking at the sector 9 fist at 21"wb on solidskate...
anyways, personally, i hate online shopping for a deck, there is no way to tell the concave and other details. thankfully, around here in the bay area, the stores have good selection, and there are always riders with new stuff that you can jump on and try.

http://www.manlyblades.com.au/ this is about the only one i know of that has a good selection of longboards. the site is not up to date so it does not show hough but if you e-mail them they can likely get any board you want (might even have it) aslong as they import to australia. only thing is they are really expensive.
there is a shop about two train stops from me called decked out that does not have a website. they are really nice people with quality products. they order anything you want cheap! example- my friends new board. cambered pintail (very nice deck) made by force snowboards with a nice shiney plastickey skin on the bottom with a cool picture. tracker 184mm trucks and some wheels. reds bearings. wheels are okay for cruising but thats it otherwise not good but this cost him 250 dollars aussie, thats about130 dollars u.s.
anyway looking to improve my pendulums and need that shorter board but cant find anything! searched for hours for anything in australia but vision re-issues is all they have. if someone can suggest a board i would be very apreciative. i can probably get manly blades or decked out to get it. i have a 44 inch lib tech and want something shorter overall not just a shorter wheelbase.
thanks

after looking around solidskate,
doesn't seem to have a good selection for 19-21"wb
yancey meyer numbchuck
these are around 17"wb i believe. could be redrilled to 19" probably.
i like doing this actually , cuz i like the kick to start right after that rr truck holes, putting your foot closer to the rear truck.
the team 39 looks good, but the wb is not listed.

joseph, that black label is similar to a powell flame.
but i still recommend a deck that's 19-21" wb for going down narrow streets. longer wb for stability at speed.
do you guys have a longboard online shop in australia?

vaitus, cosmic rider have way too much flex for sliding once the speed picks up. the supaflex deck (seen in those videos) have very stiff flex. Cambered boards adds even more height when you run randals, giving you a set up that's way too high.

luke, only four boards? To achieve master boarder status, you need at least ten boards, ha ha ha! ;-)
scott, regarding short boards. I am refering to decks that allows you to have your frt foot near the frt truck and rear foot on the tail. This could be as large as a 21" wb, (this depends on your stance of course)
cliff slides on a 19.5 and 21 (i believe), sergio is on a 14.5" (guessing). Cliff can hit very high speeds with those boards.
Kolu, i will be sending you an email. You are welcome to slide with us.

Scottie--*what* are you going on about? longboarding is about sliding, soulcarving, banks and ditches--yeah, that's my point, add also slalom, bowl/poolriding, downhill, street, etc. My post wasn't a flame, just some well-intentioned advice for you on etiquette--take it, or don't. If anything, you're the one who's barging in all johnny torch stylee around here. I don't really care anymore--if you want to be sector 9 grand high-school sliding poobah, you have the stage all to yourself.
I have a couple of pool decks that I like to slide on, and I like to do street stuff with my 'chuck. Why diss people because of the type of board they ride? Isn't that what longboarders complain about that shorters do to them? Shouldn't it be what you do on the board that counts? I'd venture to say there are some "shortboarders" that have more soul and fire in their pinkie toe than all of us here combined. Skateboarding--it's *all* good. And, ummm... weren't sergio yuppie and cliff c riding standard shortboards in some of those gravity clips? What up with that PODNAH?

vaitus--
I'd be a little worried with the cosmic 1's very flexy flex for sliding at higher speeds. stiffer boards for me (185 lbs) are what the doctor ordered. To me, they seem a bit more predictable and stable to shove around and on the wheel break/grab. Same prob with my friend's sec 9 pin--the torsional flex makes the back end a bit too squirelly for me. He has a lot of fun on it, but weighs like 130 soaking wet. Having said that, I do like to slide my fibreflex 44" kick a lot, but that's a lot longer than the cosmic.

nice Mummy Luke! yes I was recommending slider boards but as I said I haven't tried the Mummy yet, so I was just making an assumption. Believe me on the Cosmic1 setup with Webbs though. Yes there's not a lot of space for your feet, also footbite can be an issue, but even with 70 mm wheels it's super low (so low that at the skate park my toes rub the concrete on deep front side carves) and the flex helps in starting and controlling the slide (just look at the supaflex videos to see what flexy cambered boards can do). Well at least it's working for me.

hc and any other Bay Area sliders - I'll be in the Bay Area (Santa Cruz/San Jose) at the end of the month. Would you potentially be available for a impromptu coleman / sliding / pendulum / whatevers lesson? Love to get a lesson from Cliff himself too, but I'm sure he's pretty busy. I don't run into (no pun) many downhillers on the big island, much less anyone who knows what a coleman is. I've downloaded just about every video from the Gravity site and read just about everything I could find from this site, but know that they can't substitute for actually watching someone in person who knows what they are doing. I have a set of Bozi slide gloves on order, and will be bringing my Fluid Fuego (21" w.b.) with me, as that's probably the closest board I have to everyone's suggestions of a "shorter" board. Anyone willing?

the deck below is 39centimetre (thats 15.6 inches i think.) wheelbase a bit too short pitty though i really like the look of it. i would re drill it onto the nose and use wedges but dont want to re drill it and stuff it up (i'm one of those people that ruin anything they tamper with.)
they had the powell flames but i am thinking this is to short too. also a vision gator? any advice apreciated, (needed greatly {urge to spend tomorrow without thinking}).

hc is this the type of board you are talking bout? i found it at a shop today. maybe to short? the kicks on it looked good to me as with my size feet it puts my foot over the rear mounting bolts on the rear while still given the extra grip of the kick to make feel comfortable.
scott already got a board similar to the ones you suggested (which i love!) but i am also wanting a shorter board for tighter slides on the winier more narrow roads around here.
thanks.

Vaitus
I have the mummy (http://www.ldawg.com/longboarding.html) set up like so. It is my favorite board, hands down.
Carves like a dream, super light, sooooo precise compared to trucks that use bushings (one of the reasons I'm selling the chief, actually).
I don't know if you're recommending slider boards though? Because it is absolutely NOT a slider board from my experience. It is a little too short, the shape doesn't provide good footing for slides, and there's no kicks (if you like that for sliding at all). Also, a master boarder once told me that for sliding, you don't want a cambered board (lower center and stiffer = better slides).
Get the board, but not for sliding.

Luke - YOur setup is good! I like hard wheels but that is my opinion, some people dont like them because they cant control them. Other than that I like your setup, Like ive been saying i really like the nineball fist, except it breaks fast if you skate hard with it.
