Salem Weather?????

After some serious thought - its a no-go. I will probably regret this decision. But, the season is early and that AMAZING hill isn't going anywhere.
Sorry to be a whimp and bail!

Weather.com is showing 30% chance 9 to 11 and then it drops to 10 - 20% noon to 5. Not that it's fool proof, but it's looking better. Here's the link to the hour by hour forecast: Click here for link

Salem Weather?????
On 3/11/2006 Gareth wrote in from United States  (24.19.nnn.nnn)

The weather is still looking very iffy. Latest check showed 40% of thundershowers throughout the the day. Hmmm...

Going to check one last time at 10:00pm and make the "go - no go" call.

Hoping to see you all tomorrow!

Sunday Slalom in Salem IS A GO!!!!
On 3/11/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hey, I looked at several weather forcast websites and overall there's a chance of showers in the morning which should dry out if it does rain, so we'll just continue course setting and leaf blowing and fire up the BBQ until any wetness turns to dryness. There's also a chance of showers late in the afternoon or evening(really any time during the day but more later).

So, with that in mind, I say LET'S DO THE BBQ ON SUNDAY 12 MARCH!!!!! since there's no way of really knowing if next Sunday will be any better or not.

If you encounter rain/show showers on your way, don't sweat it, that's common this time of year here.

Also, bring a park deck in the event that the asphalt just does'nt dry, we can likely go to Newberg, McMinville, or Aumsville skatepark and session. There really is no backup slalom spot that's covered that I know of in Salem that isn't an immediate bust.

If the weather forcast changes for the worse, I'll try to post and/or make phone calls, so if you don't see anything further or get a call on the grapevine, no news will be good news.

See you There!!!-Paul

Hmmmm, ..........The Weather forcasts for Salem on Sunday
On 3/10/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

I looked at www.kezi.com and the National Weather Service forcasts and both agree on approx 40% chance of scattered rain showers for Sunday 12 March 2006. I'm going to wait until tomorrow(Saterday) before calling it a "yes" or a "no" in the hope that we get an unanticipated clearing of the weather.

In the meantime, if you're jonesing to go ride some freshly fallen snow, I'd say go do it, especially on Saterday, that sounds more certain than the Sunday Salem weather situation.

If all you out-of-towners, especially the long distancers really want to BBQ and ride this weekend in Salem and take your chances on the weather, let me know.

If I call it a "No" then I'll postpone the Salem BBQ for the next Sunday 19 March 2006.

DAN KESMER-I'll bring the Splitfire, but I can't decide yet if I want to keep it or sell it. I'll think more about it. Thanks-Paul

Sunday Weather Reports
On 3/9/2006 Paul wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hmmmm, the National Weather Service and www.kezi.com are talking about possible rain/snow showers Saterday and Sunday. Time to start doing the NO-Rain/snow dances for Saterday and Sunday a smidge harder. If it looks questionable, and like a "no-go", I'll post here, the slalom forum and on the CSA Email list. As of right now, "possible showers" isn't that big of a deal. Stay tuned. -Paul

May Race that Paul's talking about
On 3/8/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

To clarify confusion as to what Pat and I are talking about,

1)Pat is referring to an event of 2 days/events. One will likely be a 100 cone event and the other will likely be a hybrid event. It will be on one of the dates he just posted.

2)Paul is referrring to a one-day, outlaw event listed already on the Contest Calender for 21 May 2006 titled "Big-n-Fast Because I Say So" which will be dual-lane, BIG hybrid/small giant slalom. This event will most likely remain this type of race just so we have a big, fast, flowing, speedy, not-too-hard course. It may get pre-empted(voluntarily by me) to accomodate Pat's event if needed, but that VERY likely will not happen. What is more likely to change on my "Big" course event is which Sunday in May it will happen.

OK, so if that's of any use to anyone, good, if that just creates more confusion, uh, whatever. Adios-Paul

July 15, 16

May Race Date Changes???????
On 3/8/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hey, I looked on the www.salemsbd.org to check for hill availability and here's what we have:

7th May Sunday- Probably OK, the day prior is some Soap Box Derby pre-race inspection meeting but I can't rule out that they may have something the next day.

14th May Sunday- Mother's Day, not a good prospect due to (a) All the married dudes in CSA with kids, (b) Everyone who lives within proximity of their Moms who might be expecting Sunday Brunch or whatever.

28th May Sunday- NOPE, the hill is already taken with a Soap Box Derby CAR race.

Does everyone want to change to 7 May 2006? Is anyone dead-set against it? Post it here or email me from the name/email thingy at the top of this entry. Thanks-Paul

Paul, Is there any way We could change the date for the 5-21-06 Salem Race? That's the same day as Danger Bay 5 In Vancouver Canada. I know that some of us have been wanting to do that Race. It's allways been on the same day.Maybe just move it a week before or back a week? Thanks John

Start Ramp at the BBQ??
On 3/8/2006 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (64.5.nnn.nnn)

Hey, Why not? Sure, we can put it on one course for awhile then on the other course just so we see the effect it has on both types of courses. It'll be a good test for future "real" races in Salem. Thanks for Bringing the ramp Tim.

Good job to all those who have been doing the raindances to get the weather to get the rain out of it's system. Just remember to do the NO-Rain dance for Saterday and Sunday.

Remember to bring all your LEAF BLOWERS, chalk and cones and HELMETS. Thanks-P
