Here's a copy of Glen's post from the UK forum:

The surface is very smooth, the whole Kilometer is at least as smooth as Hove but with less rocks!, It is virtually flat but the sheer size and emptyness mean that so far, it's always been possible to find an (admitedly almost imperceptible) down hill with the wind behind us. We're going to keep going on Tuesdays, announcing it here and texting a few people and bringing any of the kids' friends that are interested. So far the only regulars are me, Simon and my kids but everyone else is welcome and frankly, missing out :-)

Hog Hill
On 5/19/2008 SamG wrote in from United Kingdom  (83.217.nnn.nnn)

Just had a call from Ian Coles as regards the hiring of the Hog Hill cycle track for skateboard racing.

The track is not officially open until August 24th, but if we want to hire it from its unofficial opening this weekend and onwards, then it is available.

Typical hire cost is £20 per hour, but also offered was a £45 rate for four hours. We WILL have to provide our own Public Liability insurance on top of this, but this is to be expected.

There is no official hire schedule of the track, however because of the modular layout of the track there is a case for skaters to use one part of the circuit whilst cyclists use another, shortened loop.

If we provide enough skaters (20 is more than plenty) then they will staff the new clubhouse, which will offer coffee, changing facilities and toilets.

Ian assures thet there is a good straight section with gentle slope, that we can use chalk on the surface and the tarmac is freshly laid and smooth.

Ian can be contacted at iancoles@vision-rcl.org.uk or on 07988 680 011.

When is Bude, can't find a link.

Much better attraction if we can skate two full days, or at least one.

GOG Do or Die Race 12-13 April 2008

The flyer:

Thanks to all those who sent texts and called to find out how the race in Dusseldorf was going. sorry I didn't reply to everyone at the time.
It was fun. Better late than never, here a little report on what went down in the land of wurst and lederhosen.

Donald and that ramp:

Uk ROaDsTers go home, Yes, Roadsters are made by Pavel in Dusseldorf, Five of the six Brits were racing them :-)
Like salmon going back to spawn, Paul, Mick , Louis, Rob and Ella took their roadsters back to the place of their birth to take on the rest of Europe.
Even Sam took his Pavel shape back to the future.

While Sam Louis, Mick, Rob and Ella flew to Germany, I raced them Top Gear stylee by driving to Dover in the Z, taking the ferry and bombing down the Autobahn, and I got to the bar in Oberkassel first (by leaving earlier!).

Driving pedal to metal on the autobahn is quite a white knuckle experience, and good practice for the slalom race to come.

The event was to be over two days, Dusseldorf and Cologne. First day was special and tight in Dusseldorf, on a nice hill winding down to the Rhine, the weather was sunny and the race was on. Usual format, 2 qualifying runs then head to head racing.

First day was special slalom and tight slalom, different courses for pro and am. The pro courses were fast and it was easy to clip cones.
The straight was 2m for the ams and 1.8 m for the pros. with the start ramp and hill the racing was fast and furious!

Lack of hill practice showed with falls from Louis and Ella, but they went on to race harder than ever. Sam, Mick and Rob were looking good in the sunshine.

The tight was super fast (60+ cones in 12 seconds - over 5 cones a second!) , at that speed the racing was a blur and it was tough to keep clean.

I had the only clean run of the day on my Roadster, helping me to a 2nd overall on the day. Quality! It was that fast that at 0.1 a second penalty meant Vince hit seven cones and still got a faster time than me knocking me into 3rd.

Heres some footage from Mick of the hill and some fast racing! Click here for link

Results:

Pro Special

1 Dominik Kowalski
2 Christoph Baumann
3 Paul Price
4 Steve Hinzen

Pro Straight 1.8m

1 Dominik Kowalski
2 Vincent Berruchon
3 Paul Price
4 Heiko Schoeller

I don't have all the results but in the Amateurs Louis Selby did well in the 2 metre straight,

In the Am special slalom Mick Reiss raced hard to a well deserved 4th place.

Sam Gordon was a threat as ever, and Rob Ashby was in his first major race in many years!

Ella Roggero raced well after her fall and excelled in the Womens racing.

That night we all went to the pool party and bbq at the Pavel bowl, great venue, great wurst and a 3m start ramp ready for Sunday which gave some a sleepless night.

The Sunday was meant to be super G off the 3m ramp but heavy rain woke us so an indoor race was set up in a sports hall. Nice to have a plan B.
This was a short 7 second course done in open format, best of two runs. Again the English team did well.

Thanks to Don and the Pavel crew for setting up the race.
I got to pick up the new evolution design wide- tail Pavel 'Paul Price Model' Roadster GT-R.
Look for it coming to a race near you soon!

Also Bish asked about the new Roadster GT-R, I will continue testing it and give feed back to the team at Pavel who will incorporate my suggestions so that the board will be ready for sale by the summer! At the moment it feels pretty good, and the wider tail does help in some courses.

Cadwell bus
On 1/31/2008 SamG wrote in from United Kingdom  (83.217.nnn.nnn)

If you are heading to Cadwell from London and have requested a place on the bus, then here's the lowdown:

Rental is via Europcar at Putney Bridge Tube Station. We have reserved a 15 seater LDV van. This should cover at least half as many skaters plus kit.

Rendez-vous will be (mid-day 12:00 noon) on Saturday 2nd February either in the Europcar office or in the cafe next door (Cafe Nunu). The Office is next to the station under the arch.

Come out of the station, turn left (right in picture) and the cafe is the lime-green-fronted with-blue-awning establishment straight ahead.
Just beyond it, under the arch, is the Europcar office.

The office shuts promptly at 1pm so it's important to be there in good time, otherwise we have to tunnel out of the station compound in a stolen vehicle having outrun the dogs.

Need a ride?
On 1/12/2008 Martin wrote in from (78.86.nnn.nnn)

Does anyone need a lift? Munchh is using a camper-style "Bongo" instead of the Polo, so if anyone needs a lift along the way...We will be passing Stansted but its hard to say exactly when. We will be leaving the South Coast around 3pm, so it kind of depends on M25 traffic.Dropping into London isn't feasible, but if someone can get to Stansted we could pick them up if they can't make the London minibus pick-up.

Booked this 15 seater for Saturday 4th February 11:00am from the Europcar Office at Putney Bridge tube station. Might be a good rendez-vous point and time, or better still, the cafe opposite.

Our one comes in Chav White with birds#@! bonnet ornament. And rust.
