Rules
On 2/4/2008 F wrote in from Canada  (65.95.nnn.nnn)

Well well.

Again, before it gets erased:

NO ELBOW PAD SLIDING!

En français peut-être? C'est trop tafiole.

Prennez en exemple le DABGER BAY SLIDE CONTEST, good way to establish rules. And try to be equal to everyone, not only the big shots.

Sliding competition rules, format, judging
On 1/27/2008 Pat Chewning wrote in from United States  (24.22.nnn.nnn)

We are adding a sliding competition to the 2008 Oregon State Games.

Unfortunately, I have never seen a slide competition, read any rules, or know anything about it. That won't stop me from putting on a contest though.

If you have any helpful suggestions, written rules, or description of what works and what doesn't -- please send them my way.

Thanks,

-- Pat

hill database idea
On 7/16/2007 imwithmaniac wrote in from United States  (75.50.nnn.nnn)

ive been kicking this idea around for a while (i know its already been tried),
but if you used google earth to add placemarks and general info on hills, then the folder myplaces.kml could be traded and added into one large worldwide database on good hills/parking structures, etc. i guess my reasons for thinking this is a bad idea or delaying this; 1-good hills ruined due to too many people using hills in semi-cop-call-happy neighborhoods, 2-some hills just arent for every rider, 3-if you start omiting spots due to those reasons or any other, then there really is no reason to do this...
anyway, just bein an insomniac and wonderin what everybodies opinion on this was... and remember, be good or be good at it

uhmw??
On 7/2/2007 chewy wrote in from Canada  (24.122.nnn.nnn)

many years ago I was wondering how to make a slide puck that would last
your mothers cutting board from the 70's was good for one ride
Gravity's first gen pucks...same
same with the motion first gen
then one day as the snowplow went by i wondered what was sliding on the pavement
on a road trip the next summer i saw a ferry landing with these bumpers made of hard plastic that resisted a 130 foot steel boat ramming it
snooping around the small fishing village i found a boat shop that repaired commercial fishing boats...hard wear areas were protected with this stuff called Marine Starboard made in Florida
its ultra high molecular weight polyethylene available in many colors, thicknesses and greasiness :oilier= harder to glue =longer lasting
many many people have touted this as the holy grail of slide gloves
my girls pucks have lasted more than 2 years she is 120 pounds wet
myself at 200 only a few sessions
motion has a second gen puck harder....still not enough
lets look to the motorcycle racers and their knee pucks

Ceramic....

who goes first

Faltown DVD
On 5/31/2007 Nick (lush) wrote in from United Kingdom  (80.7.nnn.nnn)

Got my copy of the Faltown DVD a few days ago and really enjoyed it. Been a long time in the waiting so its been maxing out my DVD player over the last 3 days! Loving the show of sliding from the Cornish slide crew with what is the last 4 years of their progression, events and roadtrips caught on a 40 minute DVD. Would definately recommend it to all sliders and anyone interested in the scene - stoked to see more and more DVD's getting made for the slide wave. With all this crap weather about i just hope they keep coming!
