PSR, Even though manufacturing bushings wouldn't be a particularly profitable endeavor, it is very worthwhile undertaking. Considering how many people are now riding boards that are meant to turn nicely, producing high quality bushings would be valuable. Wider trucks can benefit from bigger bushings. Carving trucks can benefit from taller bushings. Quick turning trucks can benefit from high-rebound bushings. Stable trucks can benefit from low-rebound cushions. We could all benefit from having a variety of available cushions.
I'm doing it, but in the painfully slow timeframe known as "reality".
In the meantime, JimZ's, Radikals and Stimulators will do the trick for many setups.

Deano, you heard right: Stimulators are no longer produced (and haven't been for some time). Any you find in the package are old stock, and a pretty rare sight in a retail outlet.
They're good bushings: buy the ones you've found and if the shop is in San Diego, email me at AOL and tell me where...

I recently found a skate shop that had some Stimulators for sale. I thought the Stims were no longer being made. Is this true? Have they been reissued? Could the bushings I purchased be originals? I am curious because the shop had 4 more complete sets in various duros and I was thinking of picking them up.

Soft and Tall...

So, if that's the style of bushing you like, go find an active RollerRink, and get some Sure-Grip poly bushings...
C.C., I've already asked for you to consider bushings. I know the market is small, etc., but you know your 'thane does BOUNCE even harder duros, and it stays together in the softer duros too. I like the Radikals, but they're not as resilient as a Stimulator. Both of these often need to be trimmed to fit on many good turning trucks. I like Stims (obviously), but also like what Tracker used to make in tall, normal 1" barrel sizes for Slalom and Street riding. So, I see a niche, and from what I've seen happen to Stimulator stockpiles all over since I first posted here about them 5 years ago, there just might be enough demand for high-end bushings.

I don't want to be controvertial or anything, but I'd just like to state my opinion that nice tall soft bushings seem like they allow me to make quicker and tighter turns on my skateboard. That's just my personal observation, I don't want to step on anyone's toes. Thank You so very, very, very, very, very, very much. -Paul

I'll second that Keith...I used Radikal bushings in Trackers prior to getting on the Radikal bus. I carved them down with a couple tools and made them work unreal. The coolest part was once I did get some Radikal trucks, the cut down bushings worked even better than the full sized ones...for me at least.

That IS great urethane in those wheels, and everytime I see a "wish I could find some Stimulators" discussion, I've sort of wondered what the tooling costs would be to machine (? sand cast?) some molds for ABEC-11 bushings. But, I figured the "problem" would be that there'd be an issue of differentiation among bright green bushings of different durometers.
Then you post this:

I think you must drop everything and play with the white and black dyes to make 3 or 4 distinct shades of green...

Hey guys, I cannot afford to buy every Radikal or Khiro bushing duro to experiment with at the moment. Can I please get some advice on what to replace the crappy Tracker RT/S bushings with for a GS rear truck, cruising and midtracks for slalom, and RT/S again for slalom or TS rear? Thanks. Greg Olsen

I wanted to remind everybody that the Radikal bushing are gravity poured by Kryptonics in 5 different duros(75A(clear), 80A(red), 85A(blue), 90A(green) and 95A(black)). They will fit(with minor sanding) any truck out there. They work like you would not believe.
Also do not forget about the Radikal toll free #1-877-723-7587 for orders.

i've made bushings out of 1 inch solid stock 75 a industrial stock is pretty damn resilient stuff,i even had some 65a and that stuff was awesome, this was long long before i long boarded ,well i almost always had one lay'n around but...back to bushings. I drilled them with a holepunch style drill it barely makes dust it's just sort of a circular blade that slices a core sample as it spins. They do make "bushing stock" i forgot what sizes and duros, evidently not to applicable to skateboards cause i would've bought that in a second,i think bushing stock has a hard core, it's not exactly made for what we'd be using it for. If you had Abec11 urithane cast into hollow rods and had a lathe with a 1 inch collet, i made a set of jaws that attach to regular lathe jaws, then you can bore them to a 1.0 inch gripping surface. The big lathe is the way to go.

for the record: abec 11 urethane rocks! I would love it if you started pouring bushings with the sweet green high rebound thane your using on your wheels. Everyone and their mom has been looking for something to replace the tracker stims of times gone and I think that your stuff could be the ticket. I dunno what the cost of molds and whatnot it but if you could make some for cheapish I'm sure the carving/slalom enthusiasts of the world would thank you. Personally I can't wait for your Liquid trucks to come out but this would be a nice boon for all of us fans of high rebound urethane to benefit from. Currently my fave production bushings are bones hardcores and radikals but I honestly think that a sweet green bushing could beat them out if it had some of the wonderful properties of the much desired Stims. JimZ of Kebbek fame seems to be making a killing off of his StimZ knockoffs (they run at $20 a set, 4 bushings I think) so if you released something at even 1/2 the price with your sweet thane I'm sure ppl would be all over it. -julien

Well, of course, the long term plan is to have a number of shapes and sizes and durometers, but tooling up for such an endeavor could be very expensive unless you're sure about what what works, what fits, etc.
Whether you're designing a wheel, a bushing, a riser pad or whatever, it's always nice to have some existing material to start with, before whittling it down. The 77mm Striker and the 97mm Flywheel have the necessary urethane depth without hitting the lock or the hub, but the Flywheels are 81a at the hardest..

Hey Chris, you really should consider just making and selling nice tall high rebound bushings, or arrange something with Khiro Bob so there's a better slalom bushing out there. They'd sell, I'd buy them. Thanks-Paul Howard

When a hub isn't positioned in the mold perfectly at the time it's being poured, urethane can seep into the bearing seat, making it unusable. I rescue these from the crusher and make good use of them. I wouldn't burn a wheel that I could flow to a skater or use on a demo board.
This is just a "quick and dirty" way to get a nice, tall, wide, high rebound bushing out of a paperweight.

wow, i wasn't all that surprized when i saw it was chaput posting that,he's got alot of inexpensive wheels, they cost some of us a bit more and most of us a lot more, than they they cost chris, the time ,the urithane dust, yuck.Powell hardcores are pretty cool, cheaper and easier, actually.

Bushions come in high rebound 75a, 78a, 81a, 84a and 88a urethane. With a hole saw, a 3/8" bit, a saw, and a little bit of imagination, you can make enough bushions for a complete board out of one wheel.

are they doing the urithane or plastic springs yet? wern't they gonna do a lower rebound spring for going fast, i think the un dampened metal springs raise some legitimate concerns for the 40 plus(mph that is)crew.

whew! really stretch'n ain't we? matching the the trucks to crosssectional contour of the road. I think if it matchs while the board is sitting there on the road ,when you stand on the board ,the weight in the middle will sag the axles a bit and take weight off the outward edges of the wheels. If you're gonna imagine that level of perfection ,i'll hav go ahead and imagine imperfection at that same level.
