Thank you, but I'm not actually sure I'm going to make it there myself. I'll be rooting for Kludy and the others from ncdsa, though.

You're on!
But you will be pretty slow after I win your $15 bearings and you have to use wheels with no bearings.
BTW - the bearings currently in my wheels probably cost about $5. But I will be installing $37.50 Pleasure Tool Ceramic bearings right after I race you.
P.S. don't be so serious, were trying to have fun here aren't we?

Of course. It IS the rider. I can change the rider by practicing and getting better. But, I can also get better equipment. Which can in fact, make a difference. You don't think so? It also depends on what type of skating that you do. For street skating bearings probably don't make any difference. But for downhill, slalom, and fast cruising good bearings DO make a difference!
Check out Bearing Wars 2 - Ceramic Showdown at www.hugh308.com. Go to skate page then click on bearing wars 2. This test will demonstrate the difference.

Arab - I appreciate your comments, and thank you for helping Hugh to find some Ninja Ceramix.
I will say for the record that I was wrong about Oust not being tested the first time.
As for me being the only one interested in BW2, have you seen the hit counter on that page? I would say that I am not the only one interested. And the test is far from complete. No one is even directing people to the site yet.
If you go back and re-read all the posts that led up to BW1 you will see that Hugh was provoked, despite his claiming to be partially responsible.
Oh, and I should give it a rest? That's funny, didn't you beat that sh*tbird issue to death over on the CW forum. Even though Michael gave your son some nice ink. Which is fine by the way, you can say what ever you want. As can I.
Why is it that you feel that your opinions are valid, but Hugh's data (not opinion) is invalid? I personally feel that both are valid. And I value your opinion very highly (you are clearly VERY experienced) as I do Hugh's.
As for me riding different bearings I intend to. But I don't think that I will have the opportunity to ride so many expensive bearings back to back under controlled circumstances, like Hugh and the test team will. Unless I fly out to SoCal to be there myself.
I have never slammed Ninja (nor has Hugh, really) or any product or person, I don't think.
So, again thank you. I am sure that when we meet in person I will like you and learn a lot from you.
Please keep contributing to the forums and the bearing discussion. You are obviously very knowledgeable.
-Peace-

Silvernewguy-Have you ever noticed that your the only person interested in this war?
Reminds me of that great song: "Suppose They Gave a WAR, and Noone Comes" I think that was done by the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band back in 1969.
Provoked? Did you miss this part? "And the truth be told... a lot of it was my fault"
Give it a rest!!!!!!!!!
"It's silly for people to critisize BW and call for lab testing or whatever. As you said most of us don't skate in a lab. I want to know what difference a SKATER can discern, in a real world environment."
What is silly is people that would believe some test that has no validity, if you want to know what a good bearing is, go ride some like the rest of us have.
It is hogwash to Slam Ninja because they wont give up any bearings for this WAR! If Ninjas retail for $160.00, then its pretty safe to say they probably cost about $80.00 to build, Mike Sorge from Ninja runs a small little bearing company, if he gave bearings to ever Tom Dick and Hugh that came around wanting free bearings for their elementry bearing test, he would be out of business, and further more, You just cant buy bearings from the manufacturer, there is proper ways of doing business and manufacturers dont undercut their distributors or retail outlets and sell direct to the consumer, dont put a "Black Hat" on Ninja because of their protocol and honest business dealings.
Hugh-Good Luck, I hope your War will make the one person that is interested happy.

Hugh - don't be hard on yourself. I went back and read all the posts that concerned OBW, and I think you were provoked. It's cool to stir things up a little, anyway.
It's silly for people to critisize BW and call for lab testing or whatever. As you said most of us don't skate in a lab. I want to know what difference a SKATER can discern, in a real world environment.
No one has EVER put up a more complete and comprehensive bearing comparison on the internet. If anyone doesn't like your methods, let them try it(good luck!).
I think it's a little silly to choose sides in a bearing dispute, BUT in a scuffle I've got YOUR back! (I still think that Oust and Ninja are probably cool products, though)
I didn't mean to open any old wounds or stir up a long dead dispute. Sorry. I was just very curious.
Bearing Wars Rules!
Long Live Hugh R!

Original Bearing Wars and the course of the Ceramic Showdow
Yeah, there was a lot of fur flying around that one! And the truth be told... a lot of it was my fault!
One thing that is true around this place is that controversy drives page views... pages views to this site and in the case of the OBW's, to my site too! And driving traffic to my site from many different angles is one of the reasons that I do the things I do! I also like to help the mfg's or vendors (especially the little guys) push their products and hopefully increase their sales!
One of the ways that the bearing wars came into being was because of the fighting that was going on between two camps of bearing enthusiasts... the Oust People and the Anti-Oust people.
The arguments seemed like they were revolving around bearings, but it was really just personality conflicts and some 'misunderstandings' (for lack of a better word)
Lots of things were said, and I called for a ban on Oust bearings (though I had never ridden them) but I was really PO'd at some of the people who did and I believed they were close to the source and closely involved with the Mfg (not sure I was right, but at the time, I didn't care... I was mad)
I wrongly figured that if pressure was put on Oust the company, that they would silence the Oust People that I was having problems with... didn't work! Things got ugly around here!
With it still appearing on the surface that the issue between the Ousters and the Anti-ousters was BEARINGS and not that what we really wanted was for the other guys to choke on their keyboards, someone suggested that it would be cool to test the bearings against eachother.
BRAIN STORM!
Drive traffic to my site... give the viewers what they want... PROVE that the Ousters were full of crap and that their bearing stunk!
Well, two out of three's not bad! Traffic came... people read... but, OUST Bearings DID NOT stink... they were actually fast! And appeared to be well made. I wasn't SURPRIZED that they performed as well as other quality bearings, but I was disapointed! Because I wanted to put it in the Ousters faces! But I couldn't... their product was quality.
They weren't SO great that I switched from what was to become my favorite bearings (the PT Ceramics)... but they were certainly good enough not to bad mouth.
After the OBW's things mellowed out between most of Oust guys and me... a couple still won't return my emails... but a couple of others do (and are friendly and helpful, but I won't say who they are because I don't want to blow their "hard-ass-core" persona's)
Sure, things will probably never be cozy between me and them, but we do tolerate each other most of the times and don't usually screw with each other too much (and on this I can ONLY speak for MYSELF!)
So to wrap it up... in the first Bearing Wars, OUST bearings wore the black hat and I set them up as the bad guys (who turned out to be real good bearings)
It starting to look like in the Ceramic Showdown that NINJA's may end up wearing the black hat! I am sure that their product is going to shine... no doubt that they will be at or near the top... but every hero needs a villian... and since hugh308.com is my site, I get to be the hero... and since NINJA doesn't want to play nice (I am STILL having a hard time getting their attention!) (and playing nice DOESN'T mean giving me FREE Bearings... it means answering my EMAILS!!) that means that they get to be the bad guys! And with a retail price of $160... they have some kind of nerve not wanting my money!
It's all a big game dude... that's all it really is! This is the internet! Not much here will last... it's not like a webpage is a classic work of art... they won't last for generations!
But the public has spoken! Who really has the BEST Ceramic Bearing? And do they really make a difference?? I'm going to do my best to provide data for you all to analyze! Maybe this time I'll even rank them... but don't count on it... I will post up everything that is measured, timed, spun, rolled, slamed, sliced, diced, or whatever... for the whole world to see!
