Mr. Mendino speaks the truth. Consistent waves, endless smooth pavement and perpetual summer - nothing but a handicap. Also, my pal Merk help build the "ramps" with Jim Murphy. They are semi bowled, 6' tall, 21 feet long. Merk says its going to be "f'ing carnage". Now my nascar buddy Craig even wants to go. And I'll get back to you Monday with the fashion report.

redbull...
On 10/31/2002 patio wrote in from (63.171.nnn.nnn)

I said hampered, not cancelled...bus depots, rodeo arenas, wet streets...like the east coast surfers, the east coast skaters DO overcome less than ideal conditions when that's all we're handed!
anyone check how many Floridian surfers are in the top 10 on the asp? 3 out of the top 5! and people still are all..."there's no surf in Florida". right.
anyway, with the redbull event, is this set up with bank ramps, or is it a skatepark course?
just wondering, as my computer won't open the webpage for info...
sounds like a good time y'all!

Redbull Urban Waves
On 10/31/2002 John Gilmour wrote in from (151.203.nnn.nnn)

A better question would be which East coast contests have been canceled due to rain? None- pretty much the worst is a delay as it rarely rains the whole day. I had a Hamptons practice session which was called on account of wind more than rain.

The California pros will be easy to spot- they won't be in shorts.

Anyone know if there are cones on the ground- or just on the "waves"?

east coast slalom rains supreme...
On 10/29/2002 patio wrote in from (207.16.nnn.nnn)

in the past year, how many "major" east coast races have been hampered by rain?
seems like nearly all of them.
I just hope this continues into winnter and we get a holy heckload of snow this year.
I'm ready for some standup sledding...

California Slalom Series #5 Results
(California Championship Series date 8)
West LA College, California
10/27/02

The fifth slalom of the 2002 California Championship series
(and eighth date of the 10 date series) at West LA College
featured a super fast hybrid tight slalom that once again Richy took. The downhill course was on what is now called "course B", the second layout used this year in the parking lot. Again racers came from throughout California as well as out of state. George Merkert returned from Prague, and showed that his racing had only improved, taking the win by passing Scott in the straight and holding a clean line in the lower turns. At the end of the long day of racing there was a good crowd of satisfied racers.

Tight Slalom (best of 3, 0.2seconds/cone):
Richy Carrasco 16.172
Bill Wahl 16.492
Attila Aszodi 16.576
John O’Shei 17.033
Brent Kosick 17.161
Jeff Thomas 17.672
Rene Carrasco 17.930
Roger Jennings 18.263
Michel Kaelon 18.373

Inline Downhill:
George Merkert
Scott Peer
Warren Focke
Dan Beneviste
Keri Tischner

Street Luge:
Jason Johnson
Bob Ozman
