Entry Fee: $25.00
Contest Info: Westwood Ski and Sports Club and the International
Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) are pleased to announce
the 2003 California Championship gravity racing series,
with races at West LA College for skateboard, inline skate,
classic luge (buttboard), street luge, and gravity bikes. All
races will count towards the IGSA world rankings. There will
be a variety of awards and prizes at each race, and at the
end of the series there will be special series awards for the
top point-getters (dropping each racer's worst result in each
discipline). Sponsors include Turner Downhill wheels,
Oust Bearings, Ed Economy longboards and Kryptonics wheels.

Each of the dates will have racing for several sports and
practice available at a reduced price for the sports not
competing on that date. The events will take place rain
or shine, but if it rains the schedules may change (for
example a tight slalom might be postponed for rain, but
luge would race in the rain).

Sunday July 20 at West LA College will feature giant slalom
(skateboard, longboard, and inline) and tight slalom racing.
C Street will also be available for downhill practice.

Schedule (preliminary, be sure to check at registration):
9:00 Setup
10:00 Registration and practice starts
12:00 Tight slalom race
1:00 Giant slalom practice continues
1:30 Shortboard and inline giant slalom races
2:30 Longboard giant slalom practice continues
2:45 Longboard giant slalom race

Jul 20 WLAC IGSA/WWSC GS + tight slalom
Aug ?? TBD Possible GS + tight slalom at new location
Oct 12 WLAC IGSA/WWSC DH
Nov 2 WLAC IGSA/WWSC fast slalom + tight slalom
Nov 23 WLAC IGSA/WWSC DH + GS + season awards party
Note: "DH" = luge, gravity bike, inline/skateboard downhill
"GS" = inline and skateboard fast slalom or giant slalom
sports not listed may practice

Entry fees for season club members are:
$35 for downhill competitors
$25 for tight slalom competitors (free if racing downhill)
$10 for Juniors (under 18) and those not racing (practice only)
Joining Westwood Ski and Sports Club as a full member is
encouraged, and entitles you to participate in ski and snowboard
races and trips, water ski trips, parties, skating practices,
equipment discounts, and more. Please bring your checkbook to
become a full member ($30/year). Day memberships are available
for $5/day, and are required for all riders who are not full members
(i.e.: non-member fees are $40, $30, and $15). Juniors (under 18)
must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and will be charged
only a practice fee even if they race. Spectators are free. Also, the
first few who come early to help with the street cleaning and setup
in the morning will receive a free race entry!

Manufacturers and shop owners, it's not too late to supply prizes
for these races! You can even just show up with something to
add to the prize pool, and bring your banner to hang. We'll be
sure to mention you in upcoming announcements.

Protective gear: IGSA equipment rules will be used.
For slalom and giant slalom this means helmets, pads
(elbow and knee), and hand protection (gloves and/or wrist
guards) are required, and hip pads are recommended. Please,
no short shorts or tank tops. For street luge, buttboard,
gravity bikes, and downhill skateboard and inline, helmets,
leathers, and leather gloves are required. We're building an
equipment pool to loan to people who forget things, please
donate your old gear, it may save someone a long trip home!

See you there!

Scott

Overall Results: California Slalom Series #2 Results
(California Championship Series date 3)
West LA College, California
July 20, 2003

The second slalom of the 2003 California Championship series
(and third date of the race series) at West LA College
featured a very tight and challenging tight slalom and a very fast
and wide open giant slalom, and sunny, hot weather. The interest
in the slalom races continues to build, with 35 racers and lots of
friends and family watching and helping and shooting videos and
photos.

Every race in both the men's and women's racing had a different
winner. The times were tighter than ever, with Mike Maysey winning
the skateboard GS by a mere 0.003 seconds!
Thanks go to 3dm Sport for supplying wheels as prizes and to
Ed Economy and Gravity Skateboards for filling up the prize pool.
