Mississippi Grassroots Slalom, the City of Ridgeland and all our valued sponsors present an exciting day of downhill slalom skateboard racing.
Luna Slalom Jam 2023 will be held on April 21 & 22 in Ridgeland, Mississippi. We will be racing on Business Park Drive. The slope could be considered mellow but it makes for a great hill for our events. Surface is good. The road is wide and does have crown and a wavy spot. This is the location where we have held our Friday night slalomcross events in past years. We will be back full blown night racing on Fondren Hill next April if things go as we hope.
Friday’s race will be a single lane jam style giant slalom with wide gates stretching across the road. How much speed is too much speed to make the cones? You decide. A, B & C classes determined by the timer. You may use the ramp or not. We will begin racing at 5pm until dark. Starting from the ramp, three runs, best two runs go to your combined time. Will have a two-cone maximum with the third cone being a DQ.
Saturday’s race practice will begin at 11am with racing at 1pm. The course will be straight dual slalom drag race. This form of racing is for the purest and was the type race that started the slalom movement in the 70’s. We’ll be qualifying first then head to head ladder racing. The cones for this course will be spaced at least 7 feet on center with possible rhythm busters along the way. Expect 50 cones in each lane. Random beep starts from the ramps. Cone penalty is .10 per cone with a 15% cone DQ limit. Trakmate timer with random start beep and false start detection. A false start will result in a DQ for that run.
We will then move to a hybrid type course which will in include straight cone sections along with offsets. Cones spacing ranging from 7 feet to 20 feet. Same race details apply to this Hybrid event. Racers entrance fee is set at $50, which includes Friday’s and Saturday’s racing and an event T-Shirt. You can PayPal the entry fee to lunaslalomjam@gmail.com or pay on the hill Friday, early PayPal preferred. Cash prizes will be awarded for top three in men’s (200, 100, 50), women’s (200, 100, 50) and junior (50) classes. Trophies for top three in each class. Award ceremony will be on the hill after the finals.
