Each racer will have two qualifying runs, and be seeded into A and B categories.

Final results will be reported/allocated to coincide with each racer's ISSA (self-proclaimed) ranking history for point awards based on event finish results. Racers must decide on one division to race within. Women, Junior and Masters divisions are subject to attendance - and will only be run as separate divisions if enough racers are present to justify. Otherwise, women, Junior and Masters racers will have the option to enter the Pro or Am division.   Class division will be addressed at the riders meeting.

E
RACE-BY-RACE DETAILS:

In general ISSA Rules will govern the event: ISSA Rules.

Race #1 : Dual Hybrid Slalom. Dual lane/head-to-head/ramp start .   The course is about speed generation and anticipation of your lines, with challenging large offsets and tricky thinking sections (Gilmourian Curve anyone?).  Competitors will use both the Tight and GS racing skills from Saturday's events. Each competitor will race head to head, in their self-proclaimed division, and elimination matches will be determined by qualifying times. Any racer who DQs twice in qualifiers will be seeded in the lowest placing. Hybrid will start at 9AM Sunday, warmups begin at 8AM.

Race #2 : Beginner Hybrid Slalom.   A single-lane Hybrid slalom, two runs, best time counts. Push start.  Does not count toward ISSA points. Does count for Beginner awards and swag!

Race #3 : Dual Tight Slalom. Dual lane/head-to-head/ramp start. The course will be quick yet makable for anyone that can run a Cyber Slalom (6 foot center) course. So... practice your cyber slalom folks! Each competitor will race head to head, in their self-proclaimed division, and elimination matches will be determined by qualifying times.  Any racer that DQs twice in qualifiers will be seeded in the lowest placing. Dual Tight will commence at 9AM on Saturday, warmups beginning at 8AM.

Race #4 : Beginner Tight Slalom.   A single-lane Tight slalom, two runs, best time counts. Push start.  Does not count toward ISSA points. Does count for Beginner awards and swag!

Race #5 : Norski Memorial Giant Slalom, single lane with Bigger BAR or ramp start.
Think of this course as gathering speed and then maintaining it through the large turns. This will be an approximately 40 gate course with speeds of about 30MPH. 75mm wheels recommended to carry your speed. You'll be tempted to tuck certain sections! Will you dare? GS warmup for one hour following the Beginner Tight.  All competitors will take two runs on the same course, in their self-proclaimed division. Start order will be determined by the Dual Tight results - from slowest times to fastest times - and the start order shall be posted during the Beginner Tight Slalom.  Ramp options - standard or 10-foot high Bigger BAR ramp.

Special Norski Memorial Giant Slalom Trophies for the winners of each division.

Race #6 : 100-cone challenge.   All racers can take a crack at the 100-cone challenge for fun and bragging rights  - this does not count for  the overall standings, World Skate slots or ISSA points. Side bets are recommended! Will a new WR be set in Salem?

SAFETY GEAR AND RELEASE WAIVER:

Helmets and safety gear, including knee pads and gloves/wrist guards,  are mandatory for all racers (elbow pads strongly recommended).   Per ISSA and U.S.A. Slalom Skate rules, shirts and shorts are mandatory at all times on the race course, including warmups and all races.

Each racer will be required to sign a waiver/release to gain access to the race course. Minors (under 18 years of age) must have parent or legal guardian present to sign waiver/release in order to participate.

EVENT T-SHIRTS:

Each registered racer will receive one event t-shirt included with their paid entry. Please be sure to register indicating your shirt size in advance. We must have this info so registering early will ensure your size shirt will be available. We will have *some* extra shirts at the event for cash purchase.

CASH PURSE AND PRODUCT PRIZE AWARDS:
Cash prize money will be paid out based on the overall results for the three events combined for top finishers. To qualify for the overall podiums, competitors MUST race all three events. AIRPORT INFO

o Portland International Airport (PDX) and/or Eugene Airport (EUG) are your two options.

o PDX to Salem is roughly a one hour drive south on I-5 .  All major domestic carriers serve PDX and the major car rental companies are located on-site.

o EUG to Salem is about one hour heading north on I-5. The options for carriers and car rental are much more limited in EUG.

o There is a major Track & Field meet in Eugene the weeks before, during and after our event, so this further limits the utility of traveling in/out of EUG.

LODGING:

Lodging is tight and a bit more expensive in our post-COVID world.  We're competing with weddings and there is a major Track & Field meet in Eugene the weeks before, during and after our event (hoteliers anticipate Salem will receive some overflow athletes this far north).

The CSA team is working on discounted rooms with Travel Salem, and has secured a $50 discount with La Quinta for 10 rooms.

AirBNB: There are many house and condo listings on AirBNB (www.airbnb.com) near downtown Salem. Most of these are in the $60-$80 PER PERSON, PER NIGHT range. Be sure to use the map feature to ensure any AirBNB is relatively close to the race venue (basically the center of downtown Salem).

Hotels: There are many Hotel options with a wide range of pricing on www.hotels.com:

o Under $100: Holiday Lodge Salem, Capital Inn and Suites, Motel 6 Salem (Expo), HomeTowne Studios

o Over $100: Motel 6 Salem, Comfort Inn, Shilo Inn Suites

o $200 plus: Holiday Inn Salem (IHG), Howard Johnson, Comfort Suites

o G-Money: Hilton at $550/night and Marriott Courtyard at $700/night

La Quinta: has offered a reduced rate of $189 + tax, reduced from $239+ per night.

If you need assistance with lodging, or wish to split a Hotel room or AirBNB, please feel free to contact us! Lodging Contact

PARKING, FOOD AND OTHER AMENITIES:

o Bush 's Pasture Park offers free parking on site, just off Mission across from the Salem Hospital. Park near the Soap Box Derby Track.

o Public bathroom facilities are available on site.

o There is plenty of natural shade in a grassy park setting to set up your own chairs, tent, etc. - so feel free to bring picnic supplies and make a day of it.

o Given everyone's varied food preferences, we leave it to the racers to bring your own food, drink, ice, etc. (alcoholic beverages are not allowed in Bush's Pasture Park).

o Dogs, Cats and unruly husbands must be on a leash.
