Shhhhhh, it's the 2010 Salem Slalom BBQ!
13 Registered Contestants.
Event Date and Time: Sunday, April 18, 2010  09:57
Event Duration: One Day
Location: Bush Park Soap Box Derby Hill, Salem, Oregon, USA
Entry: Open
Helmets: Mandatory
Divisions: Hairy Arms.

Arms without hair.
Classes: A lot of hair on Back.

Sparse hair on back.
Organizer: Some Guy with a BBQ and a slalom setup, CSA South
Map:
Entry Fee: Labor, sweeping leaves/twigs, marking cones, etc.
Contest Info: NOTICE: THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL DATE YET, BUT IT COULD BE SO DON'T RULE IT IN OR OUT. Also, the Salem Soap Box Derby club hasn't posted their 2010 calender yet so hill availibility is unknown. Also, if the weather forcasts look rainy, it will likely be rescheduled. Stay tuned. BE ADVISED, THIS IS THE SKETCHIEST TIME OF YEAR WEATHERWISE AND WE USUALLY DON'T KNOW IF WILL HAPPEN OR NOT UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE, but it usually does happen.

HELMETS: Yes, they're required, don't be stupid.

OFFICIALITY STATUS: This is a "Unscheduled drop-in use of a municipal recreation facility" which means we can get told "NO" by a parks person. So, bring a park board and we can all go to one of the great skateparks within 20 minutes of the SBD Hill. It hasn't happened yet thanks to the helmet wearing masses, good vibe, and Not looking like an out-of-control problem. Thanks Everyone!

LIABILITY: YOU are responsible for any and all injuries incurred, this is an at-your-own-risk activity.

WHAT: This is the SEVENTH!!! annual Spring Season Slalom BBQ opening get-together in Salem at the buttery smooth Bush Park Soap box derby hill. It's free with free food and perfect for newbies. Food will be the usual burgers, sausages, veggie burgers all cooked on my dinky BBQ, salad, chips, fruit, and a handwashing station with SOAP and water and paper towels(plus a bathroom with sinks nearby).

COURSES: Likely 2 of them, one big and loose and easy for the newbies and proletariate longboarder, the other will be not so big and not so loose and more technical for the skateboarder who identifies themself as a "slalomer".

TIMERS AND RACING: If someone brings a timer, we can do single lane racing on one lane or the other, maybe both, but nonracing riders have priority and both courses are open for the slalom sessioner who doesn't want to "race".

WHERE: Place yourself onto I-5, go to Salem, Oregon. Look for the Highway 22 exit WEST. Take that exit and go WEST(toward the ocean and the Coast Range, away from the Cascades). Hwy 22 West immediantely becomes MISSION BLVD(Ave?, Street?), stay on it for approx 2.5 miles.

After you pass 17th street(?), you'll go over an underpass, then under an overpass, watch out for the stop light, it'll sneak up on you.

Keep going west straight through the stop light.

Look to your Left/South(toward Antarctica) for a big huge forested park known as Bush Park. Look for a big track and field/ football stadium and the Soap Box Derby hill will be immediately behind the stadium to the West of it. Parking can be obtained either at the bottom of the hill, or keep driving Westward to the next stoplight and turn Left, park on the street or look to your left again to take an inlet drive into another parking lot. Or keep going south and take yet another Left turn(making you go Eastward-toward the Cascades and Idaho) and more parking can obtained at the top of the park.

VOLUNTEERS - It's always good to have people show up early with brooms, leaf-blowers, cones and chalk.
