Hey Mike,

Just remember, I was in South Africa skateboarding before you were even born. Ya know what that makes me?

Old.

Chris,

I haven't skated in South Africa. I wish I had. However I was skating in Berkeley before you were born. You can call me the ancient.

I'm going to South Africa in late February for the DHX. This year I get to do both skateboarding and streetluge. Stoked! It's that time of year where the little kiddies have to get schooled by the old man. Children are great. Right Mike? My next door neighbor just turned 16 and has a car but no license yet. He invites friends over and they sit in the car and play horrible music at deafening levels. Cliff, were we ever that young?

Well i'll be coming home to Cape town on the 14th of January...Soooooo stoked! I'v been in London for 9 months and haven't done much skating, so its of to the hills to shake out the cob webs.
Entered DHX too, gotta practice sumtin fierce, do a few warm-ups on Signal Hill till i get my speed up again.

Maybe i can hook up with the infamous Craig and Mike for a few runs after i'm settled in again. Fully tanked up with all the gear now too, no more playin' around without the leathers and helmet.

So ask Hugh R to start a Grass chapter for you (see the organizations forum). Mike Maysey just started slalom skateboarding this year. I figure you guys have a year to get into it- should be plenty of time.

I hereby have to say that South Africa has to be the best place in the whole world, Gustav(a buddy of mine) and I were sitting and discussing it on the way to pick up a helmet and go skate, we have some of the best hills in the world all right on top of each other not only that we have all the different variations of hills mountain passes, long smooth steepies scaries everything and not only that at the bottom of all of Our favourite courses there are generally Coooking waves(hey we are at the bottom of A continent we get more than enough swell. The crime where most of the skaters live is down to petti stuff like spitting(craig got fined for spitting once) and skating in the roads(I dunno who would commit such a crime!) just a 3 minute skate from my house(all downhill except for the last 300 meters) is an 8 k long mountain pass thats pretty much closed to traffic, three hundred meters to one side of my house is a hill with a gradient of something like 20 percent literally just above that is a one with a 33 percent gradient, then 5 minutes drive away is a hill that we constantly hit 60mph and above on then fifteen minutes from that is what has been called the best course in the world. I'm not even going to try and name all of the hills within an hours drive from my house, not only that in my suburb alone ( a population of about 10 000 ) there are around 40 - 50 longboarders that all charge as hard as they can. YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA life is good
