I've just met a kid who was riding a vintage deck if ever I've seen one.
Here are the specs:
Deck: Z-flex, blue, with a real banana camber (could be jay adams model?) quite narrow.
Trucks: bennet pro, mashed to the core, the back one had a broken pivot although the kid seemed oblivious to the fact it could be dangerous to skate with a broken truck. Rad or what?
Wheels: here is where my memory fails me. was it road rider 5? is there such thing? if so, I've never come across it before.
I'll have to get a picture of it for you all to share your expertise.
in the meanwhile perhaps you can share your thoughts on the mystery road rider 5. Was it road rider or some other brand 5 (no it wasn't Channel).

Park Rider 5s? or maybe Powerflex 5s? There was also a Gecko 5 wheel.

I was into the RR6's for bombing big hills. 4's were the control and pool wheel. 2's freestyle.

A lot of the Logan Park Rider wheels where modified and lathed down for slalom - people like Dobie and Chris Charalambous rode lathed down versions back in the early 80's.

Rick Sayers, Mr Know It All...
Park Rider 4.5 (which I never ever knew existed) kinda looks
1980s to me. No idea when made. Do you have time period knowledge?
Regardless, look at this recent sale!! Went very very fast!!

I know some about old school skate gear, but off the top of my head I was wrong when adding "Logan" to the wheel name! 8-)

That was my auction, and yes they did sell fast for $374.99.

In the auction text I posted a note on the time frame:
--They called these metal cores 'The Nucleus'; here's their definition straight from the Dec 1978 Skateboarder Magazine:

"What is THE NUCLEUS? it's a casing for your bearings which is cast right into the wheel. made of precision machined aluminum, lightweight and durable with high tolerances, it insures positive bearing alignment for greater speed, more precise control of the board, and a smoother, more consistent ride."
-------------------

They could have sold some in the 1980's from the original batch, because skateboarding started to die off in 1979.
