NOTE: THIS IS A NEW DATE CHANGE FOR SUNDAY JULY 13TH 2014 This date is probably OK, I'm going to go with it for now unless I find out there is a conflict with the Salem Parks Dept scheduled use of the park and involving the Soap Box Derby Hill or, of course, the weather can always put a damper on it, like it did in May.

Hey! Bring your Rainbows, Sparkles, Unicorns, Hugs and Glitter 'cuz we're gonna Slalom! and BRING YOUR FRIGG'IN CONES AND BROOMS AND LEAF BLOWERS IF YOU HAVE THEM!!! Chalk would be nice too.

OK, for real - Here's the "real deal":

HELMETS- MANDATORY!!! Hills kill, don't be stupid. Other pads are highly recommended.

THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL "NON-EVENT" which in some circles might be called "outlaw" or whatever the kids say these days. Whatever. The point is "We" do NOT "own" the hill and there is always the chance that we may get told to leave or there may be some use of the hill that doesn't make it onto my radar-screen. So, maybe bring a park-board and we'll all go to Aumsville or someplace, there's also hills to bomb around Salem.

WHAT - Big huge fun-fest slalom skate session. That's what this is all about.

Free BBQ with Burgers, sausage, vegetarian meat substitutes, buns, salad, veggies, and real food in general. If you want to bring food pot-luck style, please do NOT bring cheap crap sugary cake, donuts, etc - it never gets eaten and it always gets thrown away.

If the bathrooms are not open, a wash station will be present for clean hands.

Think about bringing your cones if you have any. And a pushbroom and dustpan or leaf-blower. And maybe some Chalk.

COURSES- Two coures will be set with open riding format in mind, One will be a general slalom course for those who identify as "real slalom'ers", the other will be a Big General/Smallish Giant slalom course for those who like big sorta courses or the average longboarder who does not have any slalom experience.

RACING- What? nope, not unless someone else wants to bring timing equipment and set it up.

You know, People who bring Leaf blowers are just plain the best people on the whole planet. Really.

WHERE/DIRECTIONS - - Salem, Oregon
Bush Park, Soap Box Derby Hill.
Take I-5 to south Salem(not south of Salem), look for the Highway 22 exit WEST(toward the ocean), take that exit and go West, you will immediately be on Mission Boulevard(Avenue??), Stay on it for roughly 2.5 miles as it winds around a little left and right, you'll know you are getting close when you go over an underpass then go under an overpass. Look to your left(south) for a HUGE city park, that's BUSH PARK. Look for entry to a BIG TRACK STADIUM, go into the parking area and you'll see the Soap Box Derby Hill next to it on the west side of the stadium. Did I mention that you should carry your cones, chalk, brooms and leaf blower with you to the hill? Also, parking can be found on the street on the West side of the park and you can walk across the grass to the Soap Box Derby Hill or you can keep going and find the south end of the park at the top of the hill and park there. It's easy to find. It works even better if you have your cones, brooms, chalk, dustpans and leaf blowers in the vehicle for good luck but that only works if they find their way to the race area and get used - There's the magic.

Vehicle breaks-ins and theft are somewhat common, so don't leave stuff in your vehicle.
