Contest Info:

We would like to announce that there will be some changes at the La Costa Open. We will have two titles at this event. On Saturday, July 20th, we will hold a very special race. We are proud to announce that the “Bob Turner Memorial Slalom Race” will take place on El Fuerte.
The course will be in the classic Turner sense, tight and quick. It is wonderful that we can honor Bobby in this way. The “Bob Turner Memorial Slalom Race" race will be sponsored by "Turner Downhill". It will allow the quickest riders to show what they know.

On Sunday, July 21st, the "Vision Skateboards" La Costa Open will take place. This race will be a dual GS and it will take advantage of the upper hill on El Fuerte. This race will showcase the talents of the fastest big hill riders.

Because of the kind support of our title sponsors we are very excited to announce that both of these events will be taped and televised on the FOX Sports Network. The tentative dates for airing are in late August and September. The shows will also be rebroadcast both on Fox Sports Net and the Extreme Sports Network in Europe and in the US, beginning in fall ’02.

With all of this happening La Costa will be a great place to be on July 20th and 21st.

Event Schedule

Racing both days held on El Fuerte Street in Carlsbad (directions below). Open Class racing begins at 9:00 a.m. Pros will begin after Open Class field is cut to four.

Saturday, July 20 -- Dual Slalom event.

Sunday, July 21 -- Dual Giant Slalom event.

Directions: Interstate 5 exit La Costa Blvd. Head east. Turn left on El Camino Real. Follow north to Alga Road and turn right. Follow east to El Fuerte and turn left. Parking director will assist.

Skateboarding legend Denis Shufeldt has been instrumental in organizing this event.
