Location: Bush Park Soap Box Derby Hill, Salem, Oregon
Entry: Open
Helmets: Mandatory
Divisions: Slalom Sessioner

Classes: Slower

Organizer: Cascade Slalom Association, South Annex
Map:
Entry Fee: Brooms and Leaf Blowers
Contest Info: DATE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT THE PRESENT - Stay tuned in for further changes.

BROOMS AND LEAF BLOWERS - We REALLY need help on this or the race may take forever to setup. Thanks.

CONES - Yes, bring them if you have them or we won't have 2 complete courses.

HELMETS - Yes, they're MANDATORY, All other pads, wrist guards, etc are highly recommended. It's a hill. Duh. All injuries whilst skateboarding on the hill will be the responsibility of the rider, this is an At-your-own-risk activity, noone else is liable but you.

USE OF HILL - This will be a "free unscheduled drop-in use of a municipal recreation facility" courtesy of Salem Parks Department. So, pick up all garbage, be nice, WE DO NOT HOLD ANY TITLE TO THE HILL!- So far everyone has been GREAT about this so THANKS!!!!!. So far the Salem Parks Department has been OK to VERY Supportive depending on who's on duty that day but that is ALWAYS subject to change so bring a pool board as a backup plan if we get told "No" and we'll go to Aumsville or Newberg or McMinneville or wherever. Also, yell at anyone not wearing a helmet.

WHAT - This will be the usual Northwest spring race season opening event. NEWBIES, LONGBOARDERS and SESSION'ers - This will still be open to non-racing slalom sessioning for fun and this will still be the priorty, as well a BBQ-ing since I know that a lot of you don't eat well at home.

SCHWAG - Nothing supplied by manufactures, but there may be some free old wheels or decks from the organizer or anyone else who wants to kick in usuable gear. Schwag will only be dealt out to newbies-in-need.

COURSES - 2 different and separate courses side by side running simultaneously:
1) Big Open Easy Fun Giant Slalom course which will still have mixed rythem and mixed features. Likely this one will not have a timer and not be used for racing and will be longboard applicable.
2) Hybrid Technical General Slalom course, "IF" we race and use a timer, it will be on this course. It will likely be challenging and for the serious slalomer, mixed rythem, lots of different features and mind games in the course, more like courses from 4 years ago. If we don't actually "race", it will have the same features just a little more open and not so diabolical.

WHERE - Salem, Oregon
Bush Park, Soap Box Derby Hill.
Take I-5 to south Salem(not south of Salem), look for the Highway 22 exit WEST(toward the ocean), take that exit and go West, you will immediately be on Mission Boulevard(Avenue??), Stay on it for roughly 2.5 miles as it winds around a little left and right, you'll know you are getting close when you go over an underpass then go under an overpass. Look to your left(south) for a HUGE city park, that's BUSH PARK. Look for entry to a BIG TRACK STADIUM, go into the parking area and you'll see the Soap Box Derby Hill next to it on the west side of the stadium.

1st Place Finisher: Everyone who attended
2nd Place Finisher: Everyone who ate BBQ
3rd Place Finisher: Some guy named "Stryker" or something,
Overall Results: What a great time if I do say so myself, we had NO racing, but we had TIMING courtesy of Pat Chewning for both lanes for those who wanted to know their times. Fun was had by all with lots of slaloming big and extra-big courses, straight downhill speed-bombing, sliderstyling, longest wheelie challenges by Josh Burt and who knows who else was involved, and speed lauching with a big powerful bungee apparatus courtesy of Salem's own Larry Peterson of the LongboardLarry.com type of Larry Peterson. Lots of newbies, lots of groms hanging out watching and getting talked into riding if they would put on helmets. Lots of eating and blabbing. Special thanks to Addison and Paul S. for helping mark courses and Matt Shivers for being the setup and cleanup crew. Thanks Everyone who attended! -P
