HELMETS ARE MANDATORY! Hills kill!

BRING YOUR CONES!

HEADS UP! - This is "Unscheduled drop-in activity usage of a municipal recreation facility". Noone is liable for any and all injuries other than the person injured, this is an at-your-own-risk activity. Although, if stupid kids throw rocks from the stadium onto the SBD pavement, feel free to do what is neccesary to make them stop. Please clean up and lets leave the hill cleaner than we found it, everyone has been great about this in the past so THANKS! Also, we can always get told to leave so bring a park setup and we can all go to one of several skateparks within 10-20 miles of Salem.

BRING YOUR CONES!

WHAT: Since everyone in Seattle has the notion I'm putting on a fall BBQ, I guess I'll see what I can do about that(even though I officially said I probably would'nt be doing any fall events due to bowhunting, I spaced off getting my deer bow tags due working on the house so I'll go hunt nutria instead). This will be the usual big fun slalom session and I'll bring my dinky BBQ, burgers, sausages, veggie substitues, buns, salads, condiments and a handwashing station.

BRING YOUR CONES!

I'll bring enough food to feed about a dozen+ people so if you want to you can bring extra BBQ type food, the Charcoals will be fired and ready for any other things you want to cook, or you can bring salad, potato salad. Don't bring a lot. Sugary deserts like cake, doughnuts, polymer cookies, etc rarely get eaten so please refrain on those items - historically they just get thrown out so save your money.

COURSES: Due to the success of the 2008 Oregon State Games Slalomcross event, this will be a similar event. The courses will be the usual general hybrid mixed bag of goodies containing offsets, negative "gimmie" offsets, tighter parts, looser parts, S-curves, etc just to keep things interesting in the Gilmor/Dunn/Pauliwog tradition and have the slalomcross communal tuck lane marked by dual cones in the middle 1/3rd+ of the course.

TIMERS AND RACING: Maybe, maybe not. Last BBQ the timers had too many snaggles and bugs and were abandoned so everyone actually got to go skateboarding more. Not that I'm saying anything,.... just say'in. With the goal of increased time on your boards rolling down the hill, we'll probably do challenge and grudge matches with no real race order which will give the nonracing types who just like to ride the courses chances to ride and keep things moving and those who want to sit and blab and/or eat can do so since there would be no "race order" to mess up.

WHERE: Take I-5 to Salem, including whatever route you need to get to western Oregon if coming from east of the Cascades. Go the the South end of Salem, look for the HWY 22 WEST exit, go West(toward the Coast, away from the Cascades). Hwy 22 immediately becomes MISSION BLVD, stay on it about 2.5-ish miles as it meanders right and left, over an underpass and under an overpass then at about 2.5-ish miles from I-5, look to your left/south for Bush Park. Keep going and look for a parking lot by a big sports stadium, park your vehicle, the Soap Box Derby Hill and it's buttery smooth asphalt awaits behind the stadium. Grab your stuff and go skate and eat.

ACORNS AND TWIGS: This BBQ is as of now scheduled 1 week after an SBD Car race so hopefully the hill will be a little cleaner as a result, but as always, it usually has a lot of acorns and twigs this time of year from those magnificent shady oaks and Maples next to the SBD track. SO BRING BROOMS AND LEAF BLOWERS AND SHOW UP EARLY.

Oh yeah, BRING YOUR CONES! and Helmet too!
