The 5th Gathering: It's All About Slalom

A Weekend of Slalom Skateboard Racing and Fun
Saturday and Sunday
May 7 & 8, 2005
Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA

“The 5th Gathering” is…

1. A meeting of slalom racing skateboarders, beginners and veterans alike, with the common purpose of doing a lot of riding and racing, fostering community within the sport and providing a broad opportunity to experience much of the variety of fun to be had slalom skateboarding.

2. A two-day event designed to allow each participant an opportunity to experience a variety of race types and racing situations.

3. A weekend event secondarily designed to allow the attendees to compete with each other, with nothing on the line other than bragging rights and maybe some fun prizes. “The 5th Gathering” should foster both a strong sense of camaraderie and a strong impetus for further competition amongst the slalom racing community.

4. A weekend event held at a semi-private, controlled-access venue, including rider’s meetings, networking and plenty of slalom riding.

5. An early season opportunity for the slalom community to come together, meet each other face-to-face, see old friends, new friends and even meet each other’s families, in a calm, fun, and relaxed atmosphere.

6. About cooperation.

7. About the future.

8. About FUN!!

“The 5th Gathering” is not…

1. Advertised or open to the general viewing public.

2. About prizes, money, product or otherwise.

Please direct all inquiries and questions to gbjphotoworks@hotmail.com.

Where: Seneca Creek State Park
Cardinal Area
Clopper Road
Gaithersburg, MD

IMPORTANT! There is a $3 per person per day fee to enter Seneca Creek State Park. Please be prepared to remit this amount to park authorities at the park entrance. (Collection of these fees can be imconsistent, so if they tell you it's "per car" or if there's nobody to collect the fee, don't argue, just move along.) Your cooperation is appreciated and you have our assurance that this park entry fee is the only fee you will have to pay to attend The 5th Gathering: It's All About Slalom. To keep our venue “rider-safe”, vehicular entry to the Cardinal Area will be restricted and controlled at the single entrance/exit. To make things it work, it may be necessary to direct you to a specific parking space or to a satellite parking lot. Again, your patience and cooperation are appreciated.

Additional facilities and recreational activities in the park include barbecue grills, a playground and lavatory facilities, reserved in our area; as well as wildlife and mountain bike paths, a nature center, an 18-hole disc (“frisbee”) golf course, and some very nice hills to cruise. Skateboarding IS permitted in the park, beyond the bounds of our area, within reason and with all due respect given to the Park Rangers, who will have “the last word”.

Weather: According to the Weather Channel’s website, the average daily high temperature for this period is 70 degrees f. Springtime weather in the Mid-Atlantic region is notoriously difficult to predict. The old adage, “If you don’t like the weather, wait a few minutes; it’ll change,” definitely applies. Please plan to attend The Gathering, rain or shine. Although there will be NO formal racing in the case of rain or wet pavement, The Gathering is, first and foremost, about unifying the creative input and organizational efforts of as many slalom supporters as possible. While this can be accomplished, even if we do no skating at all, you can rest assured every effort will be made to find indoor alternatives, in the case of bad weather.
