V BOWEL,cheveron bank TC, whamm-o
On 7/28/2005 Jon Gilman wrote in from United States  (67.171.nnn.nnn)

MSK don't know about the aroyo area ditch. Never skated the whamm-o bank, but my friends used to score bicentenial frisbies from the dumpster when I went to San Gabriel High School for one year in '79. I've known Rudy Navarro for a loit of years. We met on the Toy Town skate board team in about the late '70's . He was the best out of all of us. Toy Town was on Valley Blv. And the trippy ower would take a lot of us kids in the back of a chicken waggon to lots of parks. Rudy ended up singing in a punk band called The Stains. The Blood Bowl is that the same as the Cherry Bowl? I'm not sure where the Cherry Bowl was but, I have been to that pool you mentioned. I remember one skater there who had red wheels and his board was silent and I remember Rudy getting 4 wheels out and someone it a micro edger. I also remember Rudy drilling holes in his trucks and gluing flint in them so it would make sparks when he would grind. He ended up hanging out with the Dog Town guys in the later days in Venice. Rudy can get 3/4 up in the full pipe at Upland. Was it Upland with the full pipe? The same one that Tom Inoye would fly out of into the bowl. Later Dude. Jon

the imperial ditch is a tough one man, i don't remember any street names, but the trolley go's right next to it, oh ya skyline(in the hood).

there's a ditch in hotel circle up the hill behind the limo rental place, actually it is all the way behind the motel. if you have the balls the famous imperial ditch is on of the best, but i warn you up the street is euclid and imperial(the four corner's of death). that one is in southside dago. one more is the mission valley drive bank.that is the endless wave, you'll need some swiss bones and some crypto's. happy hunting, if you want to know more hit me up. f#@! sd cops

re: Peck Road/Azuza Ditch, Temple City Chevron Bank
On 7/23/2005 msk wrote in from United States  (66.214.nnn.nnn)

Hey Jon-

Are you talking about the spillway next to Arroyo HS? I used to skate there all the time from about '74 to '77, until all the skateparks showed up. We always called it the Arroyo Spillway. Used to get chased by the cops, and would jump the fence and tear through the school halls to ditch them. Its now part of a county park, and there's a bike path along the top, so its legal to be in there now (at least on top of the ditch)...

The Chevron bank is still there (repaved not too long ago), and in fact I skated it just a few months ago.

Did you ever skate the Whamm-o bank (right off San Gabriel Blvd, just below Broadway, next to the railroad tracks)? Or the banks at the school on Sierra Madre, just east of Hastings Ranch Rd, in Pasadena (both spots RIP)?

Rudy Navarro- Now there's a name I haven't heard in a while. I used to ditch 5th period every Thursday afternoon with Rudy and a few others (Steve Stathes, Jeff Locke) to go up to Oxnard and skate at Endless Wave. Rudy and I got busted together at the Blood Bowl (square pool in El Monte, on Elrovia), and spent the night in jail...

On 7/23/2005 Jon Gilman wrote in from United States  (67.171.nnn.nnn)

I used to skate a cool ditch/wash out Peck Road east of Temple City Ca. in 1980. It was near a gravel quarry. We had to sneak in We went to T.C. High The transition got a bit vert where the bridge was. The rest of the tran sucked. Fun though. We spray painted Midget Smith Valley Team on the bridge. I think I had a Powell with full trax and Gyros. I miss Gyros

those ramps were banked!
On 7/21/2005 K-LEE wrote in from United States  (198.133.nnn.nnn)

Only one part of his ramp was a quarter pipe, the other parts were BANKED! After I saw pics of that ramp I had a dream that I was sessioning it. But I wasn't jumping over the gap of the Great Wall. Instead I would go up the huge banked launch to the top of the ramp and do a Bertleman slasher grind on the edge of the Wall, then come back down. So, there ya go, the thread DOES fit into this forum, if you have a bit of imagination!

Once again, the "he SHOULDA"
squad strikes--AFTER THE GAME.
Duke--the first thing you MUST realize--is that this is a NEW WORLD RECORD.
Shaun White will probably follow him---(with a Mctwist-to-backflip combo)---in a couple of years--after the first wave of PRC-sponsored-ex-highdivers completely DOMINATES the world vert scene--this is but the first stone in a VERY big pond--and the kid who WILL eclipse Danny AND Shaun--is watching the clip on a continuous loop--somewhere in the world tonight.
That said--Danny never really got the props he deserved for all the upsets he pulled off in competition--and my virtual toast is for a lifetime of rippin'--even when it WASN'T appreciated..like it can be now.
This isn't about what COULD have happened---it's about what DID happen.
Maybe next time there can be an open jam.
I'd like to see THAT.(raises glass).
