The perfect compact Covid-19 sport
On 9/2/2020 John Gilmour wrote in from (174.67.nnn.nnn)

With people staying at least a cone or two apart while walking up the hill, slalom without using ramps is the near perfect Covid Sport. All cones are sprayed with disinfectant prior to set up. A hand sanitizer at the bottom of the hill or a small songue with it on your hit and all cones can be reset cleanly. Or you could have cone marshalls. In a dual slalom the courses are always at least 6 feet apart of not 12 feet apart.

Cycling with drafting is not as safe, nor is downhill, certainly street skating does not encourage social distancing. Only slalom has regular markers to maintain easily verified safe distances.

With the reduced street traffic iits is almost ideal.

M. Dong, World Champ!
On 5/17/2020 PSR wrote in from United States  (166.181.nnn.nnn)

Micheal Dong!! OMG, I wanna let ya know, I still actively ride YOUR (as in Your, Personal, Game-winning board!) ROE S-Camber (Which, btw, Schwippert also used in Europe to win 'JR. World Champ' status) as my my 'go-to' Slalom practice board. It still has (drumroll...) your 50 grit Belt-Sander grip-tape on it!! I run a Radikal on the rear, and a Tracker RTS Monkey-Wrench (thanks, Eric W.!) up front, and either worn Avalons or Tunnel Rock STR's. It features a 'soft' plastic foot-stop (from a Burton baseplate toe-extension), and a lil' extra heel lift at the rear via Khiro/Richy's 'foam-wedge' sticky add-ons (tucked Under the belt-sander stuff). So, it's had 3 'World' medalists own/ride it, so far. Gareth put one outa-the-park with these, an Awesome Board to Romp upon! Now that Jack closed the Museum, I'm glad I kept it and ride it! It's WORTHY! All the best, Eric B.

Salem Oregon Slalom rescheduled to July, for now....
On 5/3/2020 Vic Smead's Admin Clerk wrote in from (50.206.nnn.nnn)

Due to all those totally gross germy sick people worldwide with their totally gross germs worldwide, Vic is going to move the Salem Oregon Slalom "not-BBQ-for-now" to July 11th Satuday 2020 unless germs or something else get in the way again. There you have, almost straight from the director's mouth.

Thanks- Cascade Slalom Association and Vic Smead's combined Admin Dept.

Hey back

Hi Mike! I still have the Comet Cross fat ass you sold me like a decade ago, it still works. Good to see you both are still around and healthy! I stop by from time to time myself, sort of like a ghost town sometimes. Still skating, just hurts a little more when I hammer in.

If you're thinking about and wanting to race the US Nationals in Salem Oregon Aug 3rd & 4th 2019 and but don't have anything to race on because your stuff was lost in fire, flood, etc, get ahold of me either with the email name-click-thingy or find me on the 'ol Facebook ahead of time and I can probably set you up with a complete that will get you through the race. Salem Oregon Brad Kasha Memorial BBQ Slalom
On 4/25/2019 Paul Howard wrote in from (50.206.nnn.nnn)

"GO" is the answer.

The weather forecast looks great, Salem Parks-n-Rec says there's no conflict on their schedule so as of today, it's a "GO".

If something happens to put the ka-bosh on it, I'll post here and on the 'ol Facebook (for those who are NCDSA-impaired).

I've got a broken rib so I'll be moving a bit slow, but Vic will pick up the slack, hopefully.

See you there!

23 years and counting..
On 4/3/2019 Adam wrote in from United States  (73.70.nnn.nnn)

Upon updating our little birthday girl on the home page this year, it occurred to me that, perhaps, Ncdsa's longevity was extraordinary.

Turns out I was right! With our origin dating back to 1996 and operating *continuously* since then, we rank right up there with the web's true dinosaurs..

Happy Thanksgiving all. And to think in 2001 some of us were on a hill in LaCosta. It truly was a great time. So where ever you are to all those into slalom before and since, have a great day.

Thank you to Adam for keeping this place open. I wish I would see more of te old heads here, but I guess we are all getting older. I do most of my riding in bowls and parks nowadays, but I still have a Comet Cross and and Ick Stick at the ready.
